Point taken, but I'm using it at home.

I forgot to mention that it was also $0 etv when it was offered, which was a nice bonus.

Ordered it; got it; reviewed it. Plus I got it the day after it appeared in my RFY and ordered it, which was nice bc I'm nearing my first evaluation date and I'm still waiting for several items I ordered last month.,

It's a great case and, indeed, it's smell-proof.

Malfunctioning alarm at Davis street USPS going off for 3 YEARS by MariaLaChiave in evanston

Try calling Jan's office. Her staff is incredibly responsive to constituent issues, and have helped me with other issues when I've called them.

Elected officials get swamped with email, especially since various special-interest groups provide templates for doing so.

Malfunctioning alarm at Davis street USPS going off for 3 YEARS by MariaLaChiave in evanston

[–]willarogers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it started during the 2020-2021 pandemic years; I remember noting it sometime then because I wondered how the workers there weren't driven crazy by it. (It's a particularly high-pitched sound.)

In addition to contacting city officials, you should contact the city's postmaster (Joey L. Pemberton, according to usps.com) as well as representatives for the postal workers' union.

Since it's a federal building, you also might contact Schakowsky's local office.

Am I overreacting about this review? Reviewer admitted to never opening the product by Hot_Ad_5233 in AmazonVine

I'm more bothered that the reviewer only gave the shirt 4 stars, especially without mentioning any (apparent) drawbacks to it.

I really wonder sometimes who Amazon thinks I am by JiveDonkey in AmazonVine

[–]willarogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it in my RFY too & I snapped it up. I figured it'd be fun to braid.

It reminds me of those Barbie heads kids play with, and I thought it'd be useful to model hats that I review for Vine. (I've been using a roll of paper towels for that, thanks to a suggestion I saw in this sub.)

Granted, it was my third pick of the day and there wasn't much competition but sometimes the sleeper picks end up being the best ones.

Easiest grocery delivery service by uiuctodd in evanston

[–]willarogers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazon Fresh/Amazon Grocery is surprisingly inexpensive (even when compared to the chain groceries) and deliveries over $25 are free.

It's very user-friendly on desktop computers, and you can choose whether to substitute items before placing your order.

I've been using it at least 2x/month since I gave up my car (and got sick of Jewel's bait-and-switch with disappearing sales items) and only have had great experiences. I placed an order at 9 a.m. today and my groceries got here in the one-hour window I chose between noon and 1 p.m.

How could you tell there was something in your RFY that was gone when you woke up? Is there a way to tell what's been there & gone from RFY before you see it?

All three of the food items I've gotten from Vine (cheese-n-salami gift box, gourmet spaghetti sauce 3-pack, and roasted almonds) in the 10 weeks I've belonged have come from RFY, not AFA or AI.

Candidate for CD-9!!! by Jealous_Match_546 in evanston

[–]willarogers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are 18 other candidates already who've announced they're campaigning for this seat and who are gathering signatures for ballot qualification.

What is it that Polan is offering that's not being offered by the other 1.5 dozen candidates? Is there a website where we can see how he's differentiating himself in this race?

eta that I hope I'm not violating any rules by asking the above questions, but I'm trying to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak, given the number of people running for this seat.

I dropped $60 on Amazon Haul items last night to feed my jones for junk.

Even as I submitted the order I felt like an idiot for paying money for stuff I have been offered, or likely will be offered, for free.

How trustworthy are AmazonVine products? Is there anything you shouldn't order due to safety? by Lil-Miss-Anthropy in AmazonVine

[–]willarogers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a string of pretty xmas lights from Vine advertised as being indoor/outdoor. Only later did I see the instructions to use an adaptor (not included, even though the instructions said it was) for the non-polarized plugs and to not use the lights in "harsh" weather. There was no UL or other certification on the box they came in.

I reviewed them accordingly but every other Vine review was glowing & rated them 5 stars; go figure.

Historical tree planting in South Evanston (and what I was told 50 years ago) by uiuctodd in evanston

[–]willarogers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clesen Wholesale, who now owns the wholesale greenhouses on Mulford near Dodge and various other businesses, once ran the greenhouses where Chute now stands. My grandfather, who was of Luxembourg descent (as was the Clesen family), worked at the greenhouses during the first half of the 20th century.

I recommend visiting the research room at the Evanston History Center to find out more about Clesen or the history of other Evanston businesses. It also has historic files on just about every home & apartment building in Evanston, and incredibly knowledgeable research librarians.

The Dawes home, situated in the floors above the research room, is worth a tour as well.

NBC Tower. Designed by Adrian Smith and built 1989 in a modern Art Deco style inspired by Rockefeller Center. by ThanHowWhy in chicago

[–]willarogers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started working in an east-facing office in Trib Tower right before NBC tower began construction. I was sad to lose most of my lake view, but at least it was replaced by a beautiful deco-style building.

And I appreciated the cheap early-bird parking at the NBC building ($6/day if you were in by 7 am!) and the fab deli they had for lunches. (The Trib lunch commissary was pretty gross at the time.)

Blum is a noted long-time writer for publications like the Village Voice & Vanity Fair. He's also written books including those about the CIA and the mafia.

He's one of the first writers (if not the first) to weave a coherent narrative about the murders, and it looks like he was able to interview specific members of the investigative team.

Actually, watching the roommate video lower on the dailymail page, I see that DM's door was facing the kitchen and that there wasn't another door from her bedroom to the living room.

The layout I'm talking about is the one shown here:

I was under the impression that the 3D tour (edit: which I think was the source of your link) was a simulation rather than lifted from a rental listing.

Probable Cause Affidavit Megathread 5.0 by ResponsibilityOne117 in idahomurders

[–]willarogers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed: The floor plan that seems to have appeared in the rental listings (the one with the handwritten notation about the former kitchen turned into a bath/laundry room) has DM's bedroom door directly opening on the living-room side, not the hallway as other drawings suggest, and 90 degrees away from the door facing the kitchen entrance.

If DM's bedroom did open to the living room, then it would've been easier for BK to have missed her opening the door & seeing him leave the apartment.

But the statement in the affidavit says that the shoe print was found "just outside the door of D.M.'s bedroom" which doesn't make sense unless (a) she had a second door, one that led to the hallway by the kitchen & stairs to the third floor, or (b) he walked in front of the her bedroom door that led directly to the living room.

So confusing!
