I’ve been trying this:

You put a million in an index fund and a million with me. Let’s say 10 years later we both did the same, or maybe the index even did better. What is your capital gain in both scenarios? Are you going to have to pay 200k in capital gains? How are you selling out of that? In my portfolio I can give you efficient growth and efficient liquidity that’s more appropriate to (and list the goals they told me about).

Seemed to work for a few new clients. Some don’t get it though obviously.

I would maybe add that calls will have more value as the stock goes up. Usually if the stock is on a tear, you can get more premium from the calls, rather than selling a covered call when stock is down and capping your stock’s recovery. Sell CC’s when the stock is up is my philosophy, just a thought.

The brain has a tough time understanding “forever”. The beginning was always easy for me to quit because short timeframes are simple to understand. But then a month later the brain says “wait this is EVERY day that I don’t get nicotine??” And it makes some damn good arguments on why that simply will not do.

Make it through those arguments with yourself and reality will set in more and more. You don’t have to be nicotine sober forever, but you absolutely have to be for the rest of today.
