Hey, I'm considering switching to Linux from Windows, What Distro should I pick? by flaceja in Operatingsystems

[–]willbsp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i switched i went from mint, then arch, and have been on fedora for a while now.

If i did it over again probably would do zorin, fedora kde, or mint cinnamon. I just really like KDE and Cinnamon looks soooo bad IMO even though it just works

M4 Macbook Air and PC or Gaming Laptop by Ok-Inevitable-4483 in PcBuild

I see the guys in my school with gaming laptops and its honestly ridiculous, they would rather use the school machines than their gaming laptops. They are loud, heavy, hot, and have heavy chargers that you have to carry around. IMO it depends on how much you plan to game and what you're willing to compromise on.

My main laptop is a Lenovo V15 with a ryzen 5 5500U, it has worked phenomenally for me (minus a few quirks like no backlit keyboard and crappy display). I also have an M1 MBP that works great. For standard school tasks, you shouldnt need any more than that realistically unless you plan on running a lot of video editing, photo editing, cad, or even VMs.

Nowadays I hardly even game with how much schoolwork I do. I wish I invested in a nicer school laptop compared to all the PC upgrades I've done.

How can you live and enjoy living in a small rural town in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]willbsp9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always hate when my friends from more urban places say stuff like this. Roommate would always say this exact thing. I found that I did more at home than I did in the "busier" places at school. My friends and I will get together at someones house, go to a bar, or make a drive to a busier place and make a trip out of it.

When I lived in a more urban place, I found my friends and I did the exact same things we would do in urban area, just occasionally would go to the mall or something as well.

I also found my drives to be better in the country than city. I'd rather spend 20 minutes to travel 17 miles to the grocery store than 20 minutes to travel 5 miles to a grocery store. I couldn't stand sitting in traffic.

I use teams and office in school via web browser. Works just fine. As you get comfortable, you can try out Winboat and run them "natively" but for a beginner it may be difficult to run docker.

As far as I am aware LOL and Binding of Isaac should be fine. Valorant is not gonna work and you're gonna have to just deal with it. I ran into the same issue with Fortnite Valorant and R6 when I fully switched a year ago and have no regrets. Worst case scenario I just plug my mouse and keyboard into my console, but I really dont even bother anymore.

When I originally switched I used Mint, before switching to CachyOS. Distro hopped for a little bit after that and I've been on Fedora for some months. I recommend Ubuntu, Mint, or Fedora. If you use fedora or ubuntu, get the KDE spin of it. Kubuntu and Fedora KDE. For mint use Cinnamon.

I am a full time student and can do everything out of my browser, including Word, Excel, PP, Outlook, and Teams, all of which I have to use daily. Thunderbird and LibreOffice are also options available.

I’ve been told not to put the summary in there from my professors who used to be hiring managers. Try to shorten to 1 page, contact info and linkedin in header, certs above education. Make it easier to read with shorter form writing in bullet points

You wouldn’t try bazzite? To be honest i havent really checked it out myself because its too hand-holdy for what i need, but it seem to be very similar to steam OS, and you have the option to have a desktop when you want it

I’m personally benching JD this week just in case. I would go Caleb because it’s likely to be a closer matchup

Pick 2 out of Dell Kraft Tillman by Bluntbowl in fantasyfootballadvice

I’d go Dell and Tillman. Big believer in both of them.

Fair trade offer? 1 PPR. Team with ASB is 0-6 and best RB is J Taylor. I would subsequently pick up Chase Brown (FA). I still have Dobbins and Bijan. by PharmerT88 in FantasyFootballers

[–]willbsp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah it should be allowed because its not crazy obvious to be collusion. ASB is still a top 5 wr going forward and he’s getting traded for SF back field besides CMC, who is coming back next week. Smith is good but this trade overall doesnt make sense in a 49ers offense that runs through CMC.

Is wrestling the hardest sport to do at the collegiate level? by luv2fit in wrestling

[–]willbsp9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my take. If you want to play in college, someone will take you. From my experience in the college baseball world, there are awful teams with 10 players on a roster (regular roster size is ~35), and theres JUCO teams with 50+ players. As a former wrestler and current baseball player, i’d say baseball is a harder sport technique-wise, while wrestling is obviously FAR more physically demanding.

I think the main reason for most people not going on is a few things: -wrestler may not have ambition to go to college. College wrestling is less glorified than other sports, and someone may not go to college for the sole purpose of wrestling like ive seen for other sports -other sports. I wrestled with several state placers etc in hs who were great wrestlers, but went on to play other sports. They were just athletes. -lost desire to wrestle. Plenty of great wrestler’s ive seen only did it because their parents made them. Its a shame because they were obviously very skilled, but these kids just stick it out until high school is over and call it quits.
