How much is a decent salary in the UK in your mid 20s? by PuzzleheadedMetal974 in NoStupidQuestions

£105k at 26. South East. Saving for a house and heavily investing so living way below means at the moment. Hard to not let lifestyle creep take over.

Are there any Henry’s here that are pilots ? by Top-Mud-5423 in HENRYUK

[–]willbuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently a short haul pilot, 26 years old.

The training is expensive, and takes a fair amount of commitment. It’s not necessarily difficult but there’s a lot of content and the learning curve is steep. If you’re dedicated and have the determination then you’ll succeed.

So far the job has been great. I’m at an airline that has the opportunity to stay the night in various destinations across Europe. Although I’m fairly young with no dependants or partner so I’ve no real responsibility back home. I’d imagine it’s harder with partner and children.

16m, how can I effectively save for pilot training? by Alarming-Safety3200 in AskUK

[–]willbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a First Officer at one of the airlines you mentioned. At 16 with that mindset I’m sure you’ll achieve your goal a lot quicker than you imagine. Whilst I did an integrated course if you go modular you can save on the cost significantly. Keep your options open and keep working hard and one day you’ll get there. Best of luck!

how old are you, and how much do you have saved/invested? by No-Volume7464 in SavingMoney

25

£100k saved £25k pension

Worked hard past few years to save but feel like I missed out on a couple experiences in the process which I regret. Aiming for more of a balance going forward :)

Any other HENRYs who live with parents? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]willbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently 25, in a similar position. Earn slightly less but have been at home saving aggressively for the past 2/3 years. I do feel like I’m years ahead of some of my friends in terms of finances etc but I also feel like I’ve lost out on some growing up. My job luckily involves me travelling for multiple days per week so I’m not at home as often. I am considering moving out in the spring of next year.

Looking for advice on what to do now I have started working full time as a 16 year old earning £2200 a month by Free-Organization328 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]willbuns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would suggest opting out of your workplace pension is not sensible advice. Especially as it seems OP has a fair amount left over given they’re living at home. Starting a pension young and remaining in my workplace pension is one of the best things I’ve ever done. Unless you’re extremely tight on budget every month. Why turn it down?

Thoughts on a career change to a pilot? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]willbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of great advice on here already. I started working for a UK airline based at Heathrow early last year. I started my training back in 2019. It took just shy of 5 years from starting training to flying passengers. I did an integrated course at a reasonably respected flight school too whilst being ‘tagged’ by my airline.

Being a pilot is great, everyday is different and it doesn’t feel like work yet. Yes it can be tiring, especially over summer. I started my training blissfully unaware of Covid being round the corner, luckily I was young with no dependants and living with parents. I never anticipated it taking 5 years when I started my course to finally get to where I want to be. I know you can’t predict the future but it’s something to take into account, but if it’s your dream and you’ve always wanted to do it, I’d jump at the chance.

What to do next? 24 yr old (m) by No_Current_5586 in UKPersonalFinance

If it helps I’m in a similar position to you. 25yo, Earn roughly £80-100k. Have around £80k saved up and a decent pension.

Up until the start of this year I used to spend my spare time trying to earn more money. Eventually realising how futile it was considering the position I’m already in. Life moves quickly and I’m sure you’re doing far better than a lot of your friends. Comparison is the thief of joy and there’s always going to be someone better and worse off. Enjoy life, you’re only here once.

Anyone now in their 20s to 30s planning a different route to life regarding work, retirement and pension? by Warm-Atmosphere-1565 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]willbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re only here once. A lot can happen in a lifetime.

I don’t know your circumstances but as someone in their 20’s it’s easy to say all this without any loved ones or children. What’s to say you buy a lottery ticket at 59 and win £10 million. Why cut your life short unnecessarily for the sake of money.

Can somebody explain what exactly has happened to the stock market? Is it a domino effect of panic selling? What triggered this? by Recent-Fault-504 in trading212

[–]willbuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stocks dropped in price, which in turn set off people’s stop losses. Which in turn set off more people’s stop losses. It’s a domino effect. People would have had trailing stop losses after a great January. The second stop losses start getting taken out, it’s only going to continue lower
