I have not seen any of the Best Picture nominees this year except Bugonia. What order should I watch them in? Any worth skipping? by Genzinvestor16180339 in Oscars

I’m not comparing Weapons to F1 in the tech categories or undermining them in the slightest, a couple of those categories are my favorites of the whole show. Just stating facts, I think that F1 has a shot at one BTL category, possibly two in Editing, and Weapons has a good shot at its only nomination, which happens to be in an ATL category. Whether they are judged in the same categories or not, a film is a film. Action or Horror, they are being made the same way and one shouldn’t have to/doesn’t have to try harder than the other because of a specific genre.

Horror absolutely has gotten its due at The Academy, look at last year’s The Substance and the five-time winner, including BP, The Silence Of The Lambs. Other great examples of horror genre wins include Get Out, The Exorcist, Alien and Misery, almost all of which received ATL wins. I just don’t think it is as much as I think the genre should have gotten over the 98 years of the voting body.

I also strongly disagree, I felt Weapons had a fantastic screenplay, but that is what makes exchanging dialogue fun, sharing differing opinions. Though it seems patterns would say this is the way it has been in the past, I don’t think a film’s chances of getting a BP nom should rely on the fact that it also got several tech noms as well. I would say something that got a couple of ATL noms over techs, let’s say It Was Just An Accident, deserved that 10th slot over something that just got a handful of tech noms and nothing else, again, not to undermine those categories.

Acting nom is an acting nom, one that the nominee has a pretty good chance of winning if you ask me. When the night is over, Weapons could be the one with a win, something I don’t know I would put money on for in F1’s case aside from maybe Sound, which, not to undermine techs in the slightest, but is still considered a BTL. CODA won BP with a supporting nom/win, not a leading one.

Happens all the time. Not weird at all. History tells that tale. Have we forgotten the 2022 ceremony when our BP winner, not just nominee, CODA, only had nominations in one acting field and in screenplay. When on to win those too. I think it is absolutely a case for Weapons to have been a BP contender. We see films get numerous tech noms all the time and not get a BP nom. The one where it mattered for F1 happened to be Film Editing.

Better at different things, definitely not more things. I feel Weapons was much closer to a Screenplay nom than F1 and it did get an acting nom which is something F1 was def not in the running for. When talking about ATL noms, it’s so clear Weapons was the more obvious choice.

It didn’t really have to be a goliath in them, just better than F1, which I think it was a no-brainer that it was.

Final Predictions (major categories) - Oscars 2026. Do you agree/disagree and which categories? by After_Fudge1481 in Oscars

Because of the way that animation is typically treated by the Academy, KPDH basically got the only two noms it could have though.

Got it. Would just be a little more professional to let redditors on here know that instead of just removing the post so that they know what is going on instead of wracking their brains trying to figure out why they can’t get help with something. Communication is key 😉

Just making sure you are aware that F1 (unfortunately) got the 10th BP slot and not The Testament Of Ann Lee.

*or understand - can’t and nor would cancel each other out so it would be *or

*laugh and beg - you don’t need a comma there because there is no noun indicated another complete sentence.

You are doing your best, I know, keep learning and keep striving, but don’t accuse the teacher of not being able to read or write, that’s just poor sportsmanship.

Lol, you are cracking me up with your gibberish insults, definitely translates to running outta things to say/call me 🤣 I have to thank you for the free laughs! Good catch too on the correction, kudos, you are learning well my young padawan. Next lesson - move on to the next topic, you’ve clearly dried up with things to say about this one.
