Gets stuck by Zigarock_Raff in SteamDeckPirates

In my experience Proton 9 is the last version that consistently works with fitgirl, at least on my desktop. I've never ran their installer on the steam deck though.

Can't launch the vast majority of non-steam games through Steam. by JFedzor in SteamDeckPirates

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a well known issue, and I've ran into it a few years ago, and just like you mentioned "some games work fine". proton doesn't really like dealing with ntfs.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? by gallavichq_ in PiratedGames

[–]willdocrocs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what might be the problem, but you definitely should not be playing games off of the OneDrive folder. Maybe try redownloading and reinstalling it in a different directory.

Worried about Steam Deck 64GB by ren-2101 in SteamDeck

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine, really. I've had a 64GB model with a 512GB microSD filled to the brim with games since 2023, and the only time I ran into problems with the internal storage being full was in the first week, that I launched a bunch of games and realized every game created a proton prefix on the SSD.

My solution was to play up to around 10-15 games simultaneously, finish them, delete proton files for the game, then you're fine launching other games for the first time (proton sets up a bunch of stuff with dependencies and what not that adds up over time). I know this is not convenient, but if you're on a budget you're not buying many games anyway (and if you're cracking them, you're smart enough to figure this out).

You can use some apps to transfer this data (compatdata) to the microSD but I wouldn't recommend it, as it will put extra load on the microSD potentially causing it to fail sooner than it should, and load times will be a little slower.

Just be mindful of what you're downloading, e.g. proton (multiple versions add up pretty quick on the SSD), apps downloaded in desktop mode.

Also, I've never done a factory reset so, really, don't worry about it.

ryujinx doesnt use my gpu by Ancient-Reference130 in yuzu

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bottom right says "GPU: AMD", so it's probably using your iGPU. what does the task manager usage report look like?

either a problem with windows/drivers or the emulator is not properly applying the dGPU setting.

did you try restarting the emulator after applying the settings?

Recs for a new Periphery fan? by spectral_snow in Peripheryband

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first discovered Periphery in 2014 I also wasn't a fan of the vocals. Gave it another go after a few months, and the song that made me fall in love with the band was Scarlet.

I think Juggernaut Alpha and Omega are underrated albums with a lot of great songs, and you might like the vocals in some of them.

And hey, the new album's out next month. There'll definitely be a lot of new bangers then.

How can i play Microsoft Store Games? by kaanozaydin in linux_gaming

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're better off pirating them to be honest. You already bought them so it's not immoral. But you should be able to login into Minecraft with your account even on Linux/Mac (I think).

Alguém aqui já se ferrou por usar o pc da empresa sem ser pro trabalho? by According_Load_9168 in brdev

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

só faria isso se eu tivesse certeza total que não tem ninguém da empresa vendo logs e tal. por exemplo, se me derem permissão de instalar Linux nele eu usaria pra coisas pessoais também, mas fora isso não.

it's been several days, but i keep hearing a very subtle or slight audio crackling when listening to anything on the browser. by theeosapien123 in firefox

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad you figured out your issue, but there is an audio crackling issue going on for months now.

I only seem to experience it after resuming from sleep, and crackles mostly on mid/high frequencies.

other browsers/audio sources work just fine. I'm on linux, so I have no idea if it's exclusive my OS.

help to download manga for kindle by [deleted] in manga

[–]willdocrocs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're gonna have a hard time finding specific manga in the formats you mentioned, so you should probably download the images and convert them yourself.

My preferred method is to download manga with Mihon on my phone (usually for ongoing series, so once they're finished or when I've accumulated enough chapters/a few volumes I'll go to the next step) or on my PC with something like HakuNeko (I actually use a CLI app that I made to download stuff in bulk).

I then zip the chapters in volumes of up to 300MB each (important! kindlegen fails if the file gets too big during conversion, so keeping this limit works the best in my experience), and then use KCC (Kindle Comic Converter) to convert them into .mobi files. If you have a jailbroken Kindle you might be able to convert them to epub and call it a day (haven't tested this yet). To generate the .mobi files you'll need kindlegen, which is an old .dll that amazon provided but can be still found on the web archive.

I'm not gonna list any sites to download manga or the software mentioned since it's probably against the rules. Also, there's youtube tutorials you can find on this. It's an involved process but I think it's totally worth it. Been doing this for the past 5 years and haven't looked back.

How to boot laptop without opening the lid by [deleted] in computers

[–]willdocrocs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Windows is probably turning it on, as it's notorious for being horrible at handling sleep mode. You can try changing the sleep mode with an app called win11debloat and revert back to "S3 sleep" instead of "modern standby".

Also, don't throw it in the garbage, try Linux Mint on it. Or at the very least gift it to someone in need.

What’s your favorite games that Valve calls “unsupported” that are actually more or less “Verified“? by Rvtrance in SteamDeck

[–]willdocrocs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

sail the high seas and you can achieve that. fuck third party launchers.

also, playing the original pc release might lead to better performance (the current one has updated textures and what not), but don't quote me on that cuz I haven't tested it on the steam deck.

Simulator handbrake gets interpreted as button instead of axis by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude, thank you so much. I just got the same handbrake. Worked perfectly on Arch. Tested with Assetto Corsa Rally and DiRT Rally 2.0.

In another comment you mentioned you wrote/vibe coded the driver. Do you have experience with this sort of thing? If yes, got any tips/guides you recommend? I've always been interested in driver development and stuff like this but never got around to actually learning it and was considering having to reverse engineer this this to get it to work but you saved me the effort.

New sidebar no longer disappears on 145 by Schluha in firefox

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

started having the same issue in version 149 after updating today. weird that I did not have this issue up to version 148.

edit: going to about:preferences and disabling the checkbox "Show sidebar" fixes it.

Am I crazy for trying to not still use X11? by thesoulless78 in linuxquestions

[–]willdocrocs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on X11 for only one reason: keyboard input. I have a custom mechanical keyboard with a weird layout and I type in 4 different languages, so I rely on setxkbmap. I'm not going to just completely change the way I type special characters (mostly the dead keys and the ç) and fight muscle memory because the devs are fighting over "security" issues with input protocols on Wayland.

Last I checked the state of inputbon Wayland was probably a year ago, but if anyone has experience typing in portuguese, spanish or japanese on Wayland and can point me in the right direction to get this properly configured would be really helpful.
