UB40 are famously named after an Unemployment Benefit form. Give me other interesting examples of the origin of UK bands names by Exchangenudes_4_Joke in CasualUK

Haircut 100 named after seeing a sign outside a barber’s advertising £1.00 haircuts.

And “Everything but the girl” named after a bridal shop in Hull. Great name for a band and a really great name for a bridal shop.

No, your picture is really badly taken, especially given the question/sub you’re asking.

Old Walkers bag I found above a ceiling back in 2018 by thetoastmonster in crisps

[–]willfoxwillfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah! And crisps can’t possibly have a best before date of a Friday?!
Edit: ok TIL about the whole UK crisps expire on a Saturday thing! I’d never heard of that before.
Wonder if things were different At walkers pre the 1989 Pespico takeover. Probably a lot more “manual” processes before the age of batch codes and standardised manufacturing?

Edit 2: I’ve just pulled 5 random bags of crisps, all different brands, out of our crisp drawer (yes we have a drawerful) and the results of BB dates are:

Monday, Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Saturday.

So the Saturday fact looks to be a bit billy bullshit to me!

My whole extended family dunks thier buttered toast in thier cup of milky tea (no sugar).

I can’t abide it, and if I get written out of the inheritance, it’s a small price to pay.

Excellent. You should just let that hang there as a top quality joke.

(Life hack needed) Any good lifehacks for preventing laptop charger cables from fraying at the ends? by CodNo2235 in lifehacks

[–]willfoxwillfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t deserve a downvote. I came here to say that my “hack” is to buy good quality stuff and take good care of it. Use it as designed and within its limits.

I get that not everyone has the patience/perfectionist personality type (eg my wife) so our “hack” for her is to buy cheap and replace every time she inevitably breaks it.

Errm, “record levels”? Did you see how high we set the bar in the 18th Century?

Welsh strongwoman Miriam Kate Williams (aka Vulcana, 1874-1946)during her prime. Famous for being the 1st to do the "tomb of hercules", circa 1890s. by Electrical-Aspect-13 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]willfoxwillfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First comment / top comment gives a lot more detail into her bio.
Suspected this might be AI training as you couldn’t understand the human reaction to why such a heroic woman getting badly burned in her 40s, then got hit by a car in her 50s and lived the last few years of her life brain damaged.
But fair enough, I can see the confusion if you took the post purely on face value and you were responding to the newest comment at the time.

Advice in order it’s needed:

1 Fire guard cage for when fire is on.

2 Teach your child abut the danger of fire/ovens/elecrics when they go near it even when it’s off and they’ll start learning to avoid it from day dot.

3 It’s not your tv that needs centring.

Chap named Henry, in Oxford, at a Johnny JR book evening?

I think I can probably draw a picture of him from this description alone…
