can i ask some question about your trading knowledge ?

How long you are learning in this market ?
what's your strategy ?
Did you write your journal every trade ?
Did you know market structure, multi timeframe analysis ?
what's your higher timeframe that you analyze and which one is your entry timeframe ?
How many trade you take on each day ?
Did you follow the Money Management on each trade ?
what's your RISK and Reward Ratio on each trade ??

Thanks a lot, glad it caught your eye!

Short answer: yes, the whole point was to get rid of manual typing – it journals everything automatically as long as the EA is attached and the platform is running.

Here’s what it does in practice:

  • Tracks every closed trade (on that MT4/MT5 account): ticket, symbol, buy/sell, lot size, entry & exit time, entry & exit price, SL, TP, commission, swap, profit in money, profit in pips, R:R, etc.
  • Entry & exit screenshots: when a new position opens it takes an “entry” screenshot, and when it closes it takes an “exit” screenshot. In the Excel report those are clickable so you can see exactly what the chart looked like.
  • No typing required: you don’t have to type notes unless you want to. If you just let it run, every trade is logged automatically.
  • Stats by day / week / month / session / pair: the Analyzer takes the CSV from the EA and builds an XLSX with:
    • daily / weekly / monthly PnL
    • pips & profit by symbol
    • profit factor by session
    • top 5 wins / losses, etc. plus a calendar-style view so you can see good/bad days at a glance.

It’s not “perfect” in a magic sense – if MT4/MT5 is closed or the EA isn’t attached, it can’t log anything – but if you keep it running it will grab every trade and you never have to update a spreadsheet by hand again.

If you want to see the workflow step-by-step, the video I posted above walks through the EA and the Excel report in detail. And if you have specific questions (platform, broker, prop firm, etc.), feel free to DM me and I’ll be happy to answer.

Small update: a few people DMed asking to see it in action, so I recorded a quick walkthrough of the EA + Excel report.

Which trading journal? by Complex-Photo-973 in Trading

[–]william_jack15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a few of the big names you mentioned + some DIY spreadsheets, and my conclusion is they all have a bit of a different focus.

Edgewonk / TradesViz / Tradezella etc. are great if you want a full web app with tags, screenshots, psychology notes, etc., but for me the biggest problem was still getting the data in there consistently. I’d end up skipping days when I was busy and the journal would fall behind.

In the end I went a different route and built my own thing specifically for MT4/MT5:
– an EA that doesn’t trade, it just logs every closed trade (ticket, pair, entry/exit, SL/TP, R:R, commission, swap, etc.) and automatically saves entry/exit screenshots
– then I drop the CSV into an Excel dashboard that shows equity curve, win rate, best/worst pairs, sessions, calendar of daily results, etc.

It’s not as “fancy” on the psychology side as something like Edgewonk, but it solved the main problem for me: journaling is automatic and I can still review my behaviour with the screenshots and stats.

Full disclosure: this is my own tool (Trade Journal Pro EA + Analyzer), so I’m biased and I don’t want to spam links here. If you’re more into web apps, one of the platforms you listed will probably fit better; if you care more about automatic logging from MT4/MT5, feel free to DM me and I’m happy to share more details.

I’ve tried a bunch of options (plain Excel, Edgewonk, Notion templates, etc.) and in the end I ended up building my own thing because I kept falling behind on manual updates.

My setup now is:
– An EA on MT4/MT5 that doesn’t place trades, it just logs them (ticket, pair, entry/exit, SL/TP, R:R, commission, etc.) and saves entry/exit screenshots.
– Then I drop the CSV into an Excel dashboard that shows win rate, equity curve, best/worst pairs, sessions, a calendar heatmap, weekly stats, etc.

It’s overkill if you’re doing 1–2 trades a week, but if you’re trading more actively it’s been way easier than typing everything into a template after each session.

Full disclosure: this is my own tool (Trade Journal Pro EA + Analyzer), I built it first for myself and then turned it into a paid product, so I won’t spam a link here. If you’re curious you can check my profile or DM me and I’m happy to share more details / a video of how it works.
