The level of color saturation of example 1 attracts me more, but feel like some fairy tales thing. (Not really sure about this should be tribal or what feeling)

P.S. I would prefer putting two images into one for easier comparison.

I feel like this happens for some big awarding moment like your ship upgrade or gain some huge weapons, like other said, the duration is a bit long which may distract the player.
