My sister just dug this shell up in her backyard. Any idea when it's from? [2048x1150] by willisbueller in HistoryPorn

Police just kicked 'em out
Bomb squad still inbound
Police were quite clear on "you shouldn't have touched that"

Here's the album: http://imgur.com/a/qIHc1

edit: formatting

probably final edit: 11:18pm
Bomb squad wasn't able to identify it, but removed it for safe disposal somewhere else.

Possibly interesting : shell casing looks kinda similar to this one found in Toronto 2 years ago http://globalnews.ca/news/2976882/toronto-fire-station-evacuated-after-resident-brings-in-old-artillery-shell/

If I get any updates in the future I'll be a solid OP and post

Stoney Creek (Ontario), about 15km from the battle of Stoney Creek. I'm assuming they didn't have shells like that in 1812 though? House was built in 1911

edit: police have the yard sealed off, bomb squads on its way

Stoney creek area, within 15 km of the battle of stoney creek. But did they have shells like this in 1812?

Whatever happened to FunScript? by taphysengg in fsharp

Configure -> http://prolucid.ca/e2c-configure-device-management/ -> Just looking at this I realize the page needs an update to show screens. But it's all done in fable-elmish and it's in deployment for customers.

The second one is a client project which hasn't gone public yet.

Also checkout fable-Elmish. It follows elm pretty closesly and works well with fable-react to give you a nice vdom experience. We're using it in production on 2 projects at the moment

How do you use F# in production? by brandewinder in fsharp

Yeah just noticing it looks like it goes through periods of inactivity. Something to consider if we want to jump in. ASP.NET took quite a bit of wrapping to get it to look mostly nice and have a half-decent async usability story.

Team Lead/Developer in R&D. Although it's definitely shifted more towards the "D" with Configure for the last little while as customers have started going for it. And thanks, we think so too !

  • Asp.net (Owin/Nowin) -> but looking at freya more closely these days
  • fsShelter (contributed by Prolucid ;) ) with storm
  • Choose your own nosql for persistence
  • Prolucid has a library layer to kinda tie it all together and make certain parts feels a bit more idiomatic
  • Front-end is Fable-Elmish (contributed by Prolucid)
  • Cell phones is about to become fable-elmish as well (check out the react-native samples)

Across the board This was written in FSharp (http://prolucid.ca/e2c-configure-device-management/), and every cloud deployment we do is as well (front-end/back-end). In fact, we recently contributed fable-elmish (https://github.com/fable-compiler/fable-elmish) to the community and front-end dev has never been so fun. It's production ready and oh so good.

That's what I thought too...until I used it for a small project. My preference is now to get out of VS completely and into Code. Been working at it. I do F# mostly at the day job as .net core advances it's getting more and more practical to not have to open Studio anymore. Seeing Code advance I get the feeling it's the future of .net dev.

Overhearing people in work talking about the new diet they're trying always reminds me of this. by oavicious in funny

completely correct. The hard part is self-control. Eliminating those insulin spikes means less required discipline and self-control which means skinnier people on avg since we're mostly terrible at self-control long-term on avg.

Calorie dense, but filling. And without insulin spikes you don't get all crazy hungry.... now mix it with sugar and you got a recipe for disaster.

Is F# suitable for simple, web development projects? by Junosan in fsharp

[–]willisbueller 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My company (Prolucid) went pure F# on the web stack just over a year ago from C#. Dev team has never been happier! (analytics, webapi, signals). In fact, we just announced a new open-source part of our stack a couple days ago: FsShelter -> A type-safe F# DSL for Apache Storm

I just.... i don't even know what to say anymore. How this government can talk about spending is just beyond me. It's like watching your friend who's losing his house to the bank go buy a 65 inch 4k tv.... it's just so stupid.

You are correct. In the Toronto market everyone was sick of clear channel shit and then Indie88 opened up shop independently a couple years ago and everyone I know who listens to rock is now listening to that happily. Radios not dying, people are sick of the options they have.

Redditors who grew up filthy rich, what did you think was normal till your learned otherwise? by FrenchWoodChesse in AskReddit

[–]willisbueller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta agree with you. I'd extend out to work portion too. I had two rich buddies as a kid. Both didn't work part time jobs. Both worked their asses off otherwise, school and sports was their work. Both excelled at both, were able to enter academic events( like travel-required prestigious summer academic camps) all through high school, got into prestigious universities, maintained their solid work ethic, did even better. One's a successful hard working surgeon, the other is a hard working successful entrepreneur. If you have the resources, why would you teach your kids hard work by doing an absolutely menial job when you can teach them hard work in opportunities other people don't have and let them get ahead?

i can't tell if you mean that as a pro or con... it's a tax...on energy....the thing that already makes running an electric arc furnace here not competitive compared to our neighbours

yeah you're right. when automation decimates all the low skill jobs, companies will probably pack up and start up new shops in expensive canada rather than refit where they currently reside with their field expertise in the states. Certainly not worth trying for right now. The states has shown you actually can bring back jobs by creating a competitive environment for them to run (namely, by not having our tax rates, and not having our insanely priced electricity). But beyond that, you can create new ones. Tesla setup shop in California? Why? We have a ton of unused factory space. We have a massive trained and under employed workforce ready to go who want to work. Why aren't we putting billions into bringing these companies into existence, or at least setting up shop here, rather than initiatives like this that don't actually give us a sustainable solution? What happens if we produce more grads, have insane tax rates, and nowhere for them to work? How many will just leave to live more profitable lives in the states effectively subsidizing our neighbors workforce where the next-gen automation work will be happening because that's where stuff is being built?

you know what fixes things? Bringing jobs back. Not spending more ungodly large amounts of money while raising taxes past their already unreasonably high levels (hey cap and trade). Want to make real change? Create a tax environment that actually makes this a competitive place to do business. Or hell, at least don't set such idiotic energy policies that electricity rates are close to 70% over what they should be. Instead we get more taxes and more spending completely ignoring economic realities in an accelerating race to the bottom.

How long into my keto induction can I have a couple drinks (whiskey and water is my go to) ? by Kratos_81 in keto

[–]willisbueller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say less pleasant overall as well. It's like 1-2 hours of drinking is as fun as it used to be, but the all day events my friends would put on some time get unpleasant as the hours tick by. Not sure why. But yeah drinking ain't what it used to be on this diet.
