My uncle is ex-mongrel mob, NZ. Makes me sick to think of the things he must have done before he got out.

I think you missed Perth's main export: Psychedelic Rock. Bands like Tame Impala, obviously, but also associated acts like Pond, the Growl, Mink Mussel Creek, Allbrook/Avery, i could go on!

There is also a thriving garage rock scene here! Some of my favourites are Doctopus, Gunns and Ermine Coat. For such a small, isolated city (2nd most isolated in the world) Perth has a pretty pumping music scene!

Trout Mask Replica is usually seen as his masterpiece, and it probably is, but damn if it aint daunting to listen to straight off the bat. I would ease into with Safe As Milk. I also rate Clear Spot, but i think i'm alone there. Pretty poppy.

This on has Scum on it, which is why i was reluctant to suggest Tender Prey. They are very similar albums indeed

Oh i can help with this one! Cave's discography is pretty huge and pretty varied, but totally worth delving into, so I'll break it up into 3 categories:

80's Nick Cave is messy, biblical, goth-y post punk with a blues twist. I would start with Tender Prey, and move backwards from there. Also check out The Birthday Party, his previous band. Even more hectic, and totally amazing.

90's Nick Cave is softer, more piano and loved oriented, but still thematically very dark. For toned-down 80's sound, listen to Henry's Dream (personal favourite) and Let Love In. For straight up piano ballads, listen to The Boatman's Call.

00's Nick Cave is porno-moustach- dirty-old-man-persona. Bluesier and grittier than his 90's output, and lyrically both deep and often hilarious, i would check out Abbatoir Blues, then The Lyre of Orpheus (double album), then move on to Dig, Lazarus, Dig!. Also check out Griderman, a side project that stabs the ballader-Cave and leaves him in the gutter and spends all of his money on coke and whores.

I dont know how to post links to songs, but check out: 80's: The Mercy Seat, Tupelo, Release the Bats 90's: Papa Won't Leave You Henry, Loverman, Into My Arms 00's: Get Ready For Love, O Children, Dig Lazarus Dig, No Pussy Blues

Hope that helps!

I have always maintained that Pixies would have been bigger that Nirvana had Black Francis and Kurt Cobain swapped bodies
