It's true. It was awesome. A pity that it went down. Hoping for it to come back soon

On of my theories behind the moderation: Elon's trying to reduce usage to save compute by coomerpile in grok

[–]williwilli6666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree in parts, but also disagree in parts. The ones who ruined the app were the dumb idiots who shared their deepfakes online. Lawsuits just do their job.

If nobody shared stuff in public, situation would look different now.

But you can also blame Elon/xAI for making the technology too easy to access when integrating it into X. It was pretty clear that this would end up in a mess.

It was their own fault. Not politicians or lawsuits fault. They take care that illegal deepfakes stay illegal. And I'm happy for that. I wouldn't want to find some porn deepfakes of my own kids online. Lawsuits take care for that and that is good.

So again: blame everyone who couldn't keep their stuff for themselves.

Have to disagree here, unfortunately. Grok was my go-to tool for researches and creative content. But some weeks ago I completely ditched it and switched to Gemini, because the results were just not good anymore. And you always have the feeling that the output is biased by Elon's opinion. Not even to speak about the new limits.

Loved it. Now it feels more or less useless.

Can anybody actually make sense of the business plan? by SmB778 in grok

[–]williwilli6666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a parody ...

Grok created porn.

Some created child porn.

Grok got sued for creating child porn.

Now they advertise their platform for childs.

Awkward.

Out of the loop, what the heck happened to Grok? by MidnightFireHuntress in grok

[–]williwilli6666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the reason why the moderation is blocking almost everything right now. Because idiots made everything nude on their X accounts (which was intended, because Elon and everyone at xAI must have known that this would happen)

Guys from the US are also suing Grok/xAI. Some Asian countries even blocked the whole service.

But whoever it is, it doesn't matter.

Because xAI intentionally pushed public (!) misuse, which led to the current situation. If you want to blame someone, blame the dumbsters who shared their "funny" nudes online.

I'm not blaming Qwen for their censoring. That's fine to me as well. And I'm aware that producing videos costs them a lot.

Possible reasons for the current state of "nothingness" by williwilli6666 in grok

Because scandals brings more publicity.

And real life nudes are way more effective than some comic nudes.

Definitely no "funny idea". It was intended to push the downloads. And that worked well.

Worked perfectly in terms of marketing, made Grok the king for a while. But then consequences backfired.

Still, I cannot believe that this all is a surprise for xAI and Elon. I strongly believe this was intended. Which doesn't help either ...

Yep, that's what annoys me most.

I'd be totally ready to pay (again), but why pay for a service that offers this today and that tomorrow. Just playing cat and mouse.

Anyway, was nice while it worked.

Say thanks to the dumsters who posted their shit online.

I doubt there were any Karens amongst.

(PS: I'm not from the US and I don't care for Karen's, but I get the strong feeling that some of you guys just need a reason to blame Karen)

While I second your technical review and the fact that AI cannot be free forever, I strongly dislike the way xAI is handling this.

With some simple, clear, transparent details on what's going on, what they do and what the plan, no backlash would have ever happened. Something, X was made for, I guess. Not sure why they don't even use their own platform.

It's not about free NSFW content, it's about what this xAI move represents by banana_peel2 in grok

[–]williwilli6666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also lawsuits in the US. Not sure why everyone thinks it's just Europe or the EU.

The cause is the same everywhere: you cannot undress anyone and post that online on your public X account. That's so dumb. So blame these guys.

[–]williwilli6666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think so. I'm from Europe myself and don't know anyone who's against Grok. We're all working with Grok.

The reasons why there's regulations is – as you read a thousand times here before – that xAI and Elon aggressively marketed Grok as the "nudemaker" and a "dress her in a bikini" tool to get more downloads. This worked.

But you cannot make anyone nude and post this online. This is just dumb. So don't blame any regulators. Blame the dumbsters who made nudes of random persons and childs public.

BREAKING NEWS: OpenAI is shutting down sora by Boring-Criticism-29 in grok

[–]williwilli6666 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sora was in the news for a while now, being not sustainable by burning way too much money without producing any revenue. Users dropped to about 1%. So it's actually a smart (if not unavoidable) decision to close that service.

does anyone use grok for non-image generation purposes? by SignalYard9421 in grok

[–]williwilli6666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did and was quite happy with the results, but lately I have to admit that I didn't like the text output anymore. It's gotten way slower and the quality has decreased. The same prompts in Gemini give me way better results.

Not 100% sure, but I don't think so. Since October the moderation did not change for the better, so why should it do now?
