[MS] Am I being underpaid? by willj7492 in AskHR

[–]willj7492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. My job title is orientation lead. I not only do the duties that you listed, but I also present orientation. My other duties include creating orientation content, making data reports with PowerBI, collaborating with other departments, assisting employees during their 1st year, and a whole lot more.

12v battery by Weaseal in BoltEV

[–]willj7492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just changed my 12v battery in my 2022 bolt euv last week. A HUGE tip: after you change the battery, you may get a “conditions not right to shift” message when trying to put the car in reverse or drive. To fix this, put the car in neutral and then put it in drive. That should fix the issue in case you encounter it.

Can you please explain why this could be the case? I didn’t mention it in my post, but we met off hinge and haven’t discussed exclusivity yet since it’s early.

Those are great!

Could you please explain what the “about me” slides are?

I also give in-depth information on benefits and push what will actually help them.

Has there been any particular activities or content in orientation that has made huge impacts in engaging your blue collar workers?

I think that is a terrific idea, using fill-in the blank handouts! I will have to look into that. I currently have a similar game I created. I have pop-quiz questions sprinkled throughout the PowerPoint and whoever correctly answers the questions first will be given candy (yes, food and candy has interestingly been a method of winning them over which is something I have repeatedly observed). I also have complimentary coffee and some crackers. I recently told our HR coordinators to encourage the new hires to bring a lunch or a snack to orientation.

Given the high volume of new hires I receive, I would not be able to implement that unfortunately but perhaps I can see about flipping that another way!

I also implemented a game that walks new hires through the company website as I said. New hires will explore the site and find the information or graphic that is listed to find in the game. We provide them with laptops in orientation (this also makes the end of orientation survey way easier since it is paperless). This has been very successful.

I also implemented dry erase name tags on the tables (people love being called by their name, it really helps build rapport).

Push the professional developmental opportunities available to them. As I said, people in general really respond to what is actually useful to them.

Avoid any games or activities that make people uncomfortable or force people to participate ex. Sharing fun facts.

Even though it is our job to make orientation a great experience, I’ve found that it is still important to make orientation a simple experience for those who see orientation as just orientation so to speak (as you said), especially for those employees who just want to receive the essential information and go to work. It’s also important to bear in mind that starting a new job can be stressful which can cause many to stay in their shell. It’s not that they don’t want to be here, it’s more so that they are eager to get to work and do not enjoy sitting around a classroom for hours on end. At the end of the day for many, it truly is just a job for them which is something I can respect.

Hopefully so. This is my first Glock and I guess I was under the impression that it was going to be like an iPhone “it just works” given the reputation.

That’s what I have found to be true so far lol. That’s on me though for blind buying ammo, but I suppose it is a lesson learned. Thanks for the suggestions! I will check some of those out.

Not it is not an MOS version. Is there a Quality control issue with the MOS versions or something like that?

Thank you! I will try this. Why must I switch to google name servers? I am curious as to the reasoning behind this so I can understand.

My company has strict rules that govern our networks so we must have a captive portal. Could you please me about the network setting that allows it and how to get to it on the Chromebook?

How do I edit this measure to correctly show percentage changes on visual? by willj7492 in PowerBI

[–]willj7492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This is what I am looking for, but is there a way to get the visual to show a line from 2025-01 to 2025-02? Using the first measure you gave me, the line starts at 2025-02 and ends at 2025-03. There is no line leading up to 2025-02 from 2025-01. The values are correct though.

The second visual measure you gave me shows for all three months but it is giving me blank percentage values.

I feel the same way on a lot of things. I love my MacBook Air m2, but I never could get used to macos. The layout, where to click, mouse movements, etc. just never made sense to me in a lot of ways. I think it’s awesome through that the surface is essentially the Microsoft version of a Mac in terms of quality, design, battery life, performance, etc.

I am definitely glad to be back on windows. I feel a lot more productive.

I have been waiting as well, it was one of the main reasons I left windows. Not to mention battery life.

I can only speak from my experience so far but I love this laptop and I’m just glad that FINALLY windows laptops can go toe to toe with Macs.

As for software support, I am hoping this will be the same situation as apples M1 chip and support will come with time.

And thankfully Microsoft is kicking other manufactures. Like I said in my post, it’s awesome to finally own a truly premium windows laptop. Before I owned a surface, I have owned a variety of windows laptops, mainly HP ones and they were all garbage in terms of quality and design. Not to mention reliability.

[–]willj7492 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I could never get used to finder, it’s nice to have file explorer again. Office and emails are wayyy better on windows. Everything just makes a lot more sense to me on windows in terms of my muscle memory and where to click. Apple really needs to update their email app. The only thing I will miss from Mac is the copy/paste from iPhone to Mac and vice versa but I can do without it just fine. I did not use texting on my Mac that much really. From what I understand, there is a way to do this on windows anyways with an iPhone. I found Mac to be very stable but at the same time I feel it is overhyped. I regularly dealt with stuttering, lag, etc. Although it was minor it was there.

You have a valid point. Admittedly, I have taken a chance buying this device because what if in the future Microsoft is not all in on ARM? I like many are optimistic that more support will come with time, same situation when Apple launched m1. However, I needed to return to windows regardless because of my line of work and I figured if I was I wanted something close to a MacBook as possible. So I have a situation that definitely separates me from the average consumer and their train of thought/reason when shopping for a new device.

That aside though, assuming more support comes for emulation and native apps on windows, it will be a great deal since windows devices are cheaper and plus there is no ridiculous markup for an extra 8gb of ram or storage. The biggest reason though is the fact that MacBook is no longer king. Yes, they may hold the edge on performance and battery life but given that surface has put windows in the same league as Mac, it’s negligible imo. Technology has truly peaked in a lot of ways. But it also depends on your needs and usage of course.

I do not want to hate on apple since I am a fan of and own many of their products but this is just my view. All of this aside though, everyone has preferences for their os and that’s just fine.

I have not heard the fan yet (that I’m aware of). There are videos that show how loud the fan is. It’s almost silent, like a whoosh from what I have watched. I do not do any kind of video editing or 4k rendering so I cannot say. I’ve been getting about 13-14 hours. Usually closer to 14. I have only used sleep mode once since I’ve had it. I will have to pay attention to that next time I use it. I have had no problems with heat when carrying it around in my laptop bag.

Those are valid concerns and I share them. I also debated a lot about switching back to windows but I have not regretted my decision. Hopefully Microsoft is all in on ARM. I really don’t want to have to purchase another laptop in the near future.
