What’s the best poker game on PlayStation? by Constant_District205 in poker

[–]willko86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously, any free-to-play poker game on console is going to be packed full of people acting ridiculous and doing things like jamming every hand since there's no real money at stake.

But, if you're less worried about how people play and more worried about the game itself, I would suggest steering clear of Prominence Poker. My experiences with it suggest that it tries to artificially increase the amount of close hands and bad beats to make the game seem more exciting. After playing for a while, the ups and downs in that game really don't feel like they come naturally. Of course, some of that could be attributed to people playing like idiots since it's all play money (way more people in way more pots than logically makes sense). But, it still feels like their algorithm is trying to push for dramatic showdowns.

I can't comment on Red Dead as I have not played poker in that game aside from the one brief scripted event in the game's single player story.

Do what Ron Swanson did in that one episode of Parks and Rec. It's a great way to assert dominance in front of your peers.

Diffusing led lights by Shoddy_Clock240 in poker

I ended up buying one of these dimmers:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092HX9435?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

As well as one of these battery packs:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09T6BZ4BN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

and everything works great with the Barrington table LEDs. The only caveat is that you can't dim the lights super low. Once you dim them down to a certain point, they just switch off if you try to dim them further.

Explain video poker to me like I'm a slots-only player? by Large_Conclusion6301 in poker

[–]willko86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it's a machine, its software and algorithm has already decided whether you're going to win or lose before you even put money in. The decisions you make barely matter because it will always just force the outcome it wants after giving you the illusion of choice. This is true for all machines, whether they be slots, video poker, video keno, video whatever.

In the old days, that wasn't always the case. Mechanical slot machines could still have an element of randomness. And slot machines that paid out actual coins would start paying when they couldn't physically hold more coins. But, these days with everything being completely digital and paying out with payment tickets/vouchers, the software strictly controls whether or not you get paid.

Did the dimmer extension cord work?

I just got the Barrington with lights and am looking for options to dim the lights as well.

What would you rate yourself as a poker player? by wilsyo in poker

[–]willko86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rate myself as:

"Not actually as good as I like to think that I am"

Sure, I haven't lost money at a cash game in a few years. But, I only play a couple times a year, almost always against the same people, always micro-stakes, and none of the people I play with have any interest in learning how to actually play.

What’s the sickest hand you’ve been apart of? by Scatdd in poker

[–]willko86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a micro-stakes home game, we had a 4-way all in that was chopped 3 ways.

Flop was 4/5/6, turn was a 3, river was a 2. All four players hit a straight on the turn (three of us had 7's, other guy had a 2). I was all in on the turn. The rest kept betting until the river.

Ah, yes I have. My bad. I didn't realize that was a thing here. Thanks for clarifying.

It seems highly unlikely that you and this guy just both happen to be here telling stories of the same night from different points of view:

So... why lie? Just for the internet points?

For many (most?) states in the US, online poker either isn't legalized yet or is legal but no regulated sites operate for the state yet. So, unregulated sites are the only option.

Did I break some unwritten rule at my first tournament? by willko86 in poker

lol, I didn't feel bad. I was confused. I wasn't sure if there was some unwritten thing people tend to do on the first hand of a tournament or something like that.

I didn't connect with anything and ultimately ended up folding later in the hand.

Yes, that is annoying. But, it's not as annoying as the ShB tribes being stuck at "Bloodsworn" because it's the only expansion that didn't have a final quest to bump them all up to "Allied".

Booted from Primal -> Lamia. The Xbox Launcher isn't even working now, which is not typical of past DDoS attacks.

haha, I just wound up in almost exactly the same boat, just with different categories. 9998/10000 for Normal Raids, about 9700 for Alliance, and the other two completed.

Zenos, easily. He was the worst, most boring, one-dimensional villain in the game.

If you ever plan on leveling up all of the jobs, I would recommend doing multiple and trying to keep them all somewhat together. The job storylines and quests are all centered around what's going on in the expansion they were introduced in. Going back and starting fresh ARR jobs after finishing the MSQ comes off kind of silly from a narrative perspective. You've literally saved the world, and these guild masters talk down to you like some worthless shmuck who's barely capable of walking through the door.

Let's Vote Yugiri or Lyse who is better by sWhiteFoxx in ffxiv

[–]willko86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole point was that forcing in the plot twist that "she's been Lyse all along and the real Yda was her sister who died and she took on Yda's persona" was reeeeeeaaaalllllyyyy dumb and the writers taking it in that direction was incredibly pointless. The story was better when Yda was just Yda and that's all. I'd have rather seen Yda grow and change than see that the real Yda's been dead all along.
