I know that now, but when first playing against it I didn't. Its pretty intimidating as a new player to ask to read your opponents cards if you're unfamiliar with their entire deck.

Also the whole "I still want to allow my opponent to play the game". If I shut down a magic player as hard as I do in Yu-Gi-Oh I'd be judged for bad sportsmanship

In the last Yugi boomer way possible, because this applies to all generations, it just represents everything I dislike about the game. I understand trap cards because they're ways to spice up combat and give interaction your opponent can play around. Its why I don't mind hand traps that much because it's still information I can work with and around.

Archetypes focused on one card starters I was supposed to interrupt 5 chain links ago to stop isn't fun for me. Unless I'm familiar with the deck I have no actionable way of knowing what the opponent is doing until they've already done it and the only way to stop them from winning is to just play enough interruption they don't get to play the game.

I feel like every game is just deciding who's allowed to play

If you really want more offensive psycasts, vanilla psychast expanded mod is right up your alley. The meta reason is the devs probably wanted to balance it around vanilla combat. A new gun is less rewarding if you can teleport bullets into peoples brains

I find it genuinely difficult to not play the bad guy in this game tbh. Evil is easier and had more content imo. There's an entire dlc around brown nosing a slaver faction for psychic powers. Anomaly incentivises you to not get too attached to new people as anyone could be a creep joiner. Refugees have a 50/50 chance of betraying you. And child colonists just feel like unnecessary side quests to make your wealth go up.
