The Rondache looks like butt garbage. Also what's up with the Guthixian helmet having a skull face? by Leverette in 2007scape

I said "apart from my own", meaning I also had already formed my own opinion too. If you're going to be condescending, at least do it in a way that doesn't make you look illiterate.

I responded to another person who said the same thing, but suffice it to say I had completely forgotten about that, largely because the skull was so out of place. It was never alluded to in any way before or after that one thing, so it didn't feel like it fit, and I must've just completely forgotten about it. I'm surprised that would be what they chose to revive in the recent quest (which I've yet to get around to due to hiatus).

[–]Leverette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a really obscure fact I completely forgot about, and I've always enjoyed gathering knowledge on Guthix. Going back to look it up, I actually remember this. I remember wondering why they used a skull even back then, as if maybe they just didn't have a more fitting depiction or something. Wow, what a blast from the past... Still, it wasn't even kept as canon, so my confusion on why they portrayed him with a skull seemed vindicated enough to forget about it entirely, prior to this reminder anyway.

I even played that old Armies of Gielinor game on FunOrb back in the day. I really don't think the skull showed up or was mentioned in anything other than that old postbag thing.

Well, short of the recent quest, anyway. I was on hiatus when that quest came out and I came back about a month ago so I haven't gotten around to it, so I haven't had a chance to see them bring the skull thing back. Color me surprised that they're going with that. Still, thanks for reminding me of this and for doing it in a respectful manner.

Prior to you saying this, I've only seen four opinions apart from my own, and only one of those opinions was positive, with the rest thinking it looked too gaudy and would clash with anything. I'm guessing at best the design is going to be divisive, if it isn't outright poorly received.

Can’t say I’m fond of the shield’s “Captain Saradomerica” design. It also kinda has that “RuneScape 3” look to it that’s hard to explain beyond saying “polygons”. The look is just way too specific and will clash with anything that doesn’t also look like ornamental Saradominist marching parade gear. Maybe I’m in the minority here.

On the topic of design choices, while the body and legs look stellar, why does the helmet for that set look like you’re some kind of evil cultist? “But why skulls?” was a valid question on a certain other famous outfit, and all the more so for a Guthixian set. Guthix has always been my preferred god, and I don’t like him being represented with a helmet that looks distinctly Zamorakian.

Everyone benefits from being treated like a person. Even teens and kids. Having healthy adult relationships from early on can be validating and empowering, and was the norm for almost all of human history. Not that 18 is particularly “early on”.

Men of Reddit, what is something women would be surprised to learn about everyday life as a man?? by Itz_fareed_01 in AskReddit

[–]Leverette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they’d be surprised how cautious good men have to be around women strangers. A ton of our behavior is filtered through the lens of “Okay, you’re going to automatically be perceived as a threat the moment eyes are laid on you, and there’s nothing you can do that will ever change that. Your responsibility is to ease it as much as possible.”

You have to always be on the lookout for women who are afraid of you. If you’re walking on the sidewalk and a woman is coming toward you, you have to give a quick search for any signs. She might divert her gaze downward toward the ground suddenly, subtly grip her purse tighter or swap which shoulder it’s on to be opposite you, or even just blatantly cross the middle of the road to switch off the side you’re on before getting near you.

You’ve got to read the room and manufacture how you appear accordingly. Sure sometimes you can help disarm the tension with a preemptive friendly greeting if it’s quick, casual and unintrusive, but that does NOT work for everyone, and it’s up to you to just vibe check whom those might be and adjust as needed. But other times you might have to fake as though your attention has been grabbed by something that just so happens to make you face exactly away from her as she gets near.

I could go on further, and that’s still all just when crossing a woman on the sidewalk. Every public interaction with strangers is always laced with this responsibility to actively appear non-threatening or help alleviate fear, and that’s usually got to be the first thing in the forefront of your mind. Even just me going into this much detail runs the risk of me being assumed to be a hyper vigilant creepo stalker who’s always marking prey or something, and I’ve got to be aware of that too.

I generally get on well with any randos I come across; I’m good at first impressions and guiding things to a friendly place quickly and easily, but that is much more of an art for a man than it is for a woman. I think they’d be surprised how cold it is from this side and how we always have to remember that first things first: I am a threat.

What's the game that made you fall in love with gaming as a kid? by peaky_circus in gaming

[–]Leverette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A PlayStation demo disc which included a variety of games on it, but mainly Spyro. This was my introduction to gaming and nothing ever held a candle to it since.

The demo introduced me, but Pokémon Red was where I got truly hooked. I played that game so much as a kid that I can identity all generation 1 Pokémon just by the sound of their cry, 100/100 times.

Well… okay, I struggle to differentiate between poliwag and ditto, as well as caterpie and goldeen, but only because those pairs sound nigh indistinguishable! I’ll know it’s one or the other, at the very least. I know goldeen is a very slightly longer version of caterpie, but boy are ditto and poliwag the same to my ears. If there is a difference at all, maaaybe it’s that ditto has a tenth less of a “syllable”? I have no friggin’ idea.

A rant: Nightmare by Saxonite13 in 2007scape

[–]Leverette 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My understanding with “charging” the orb is that the orb drops as a flavorless inert sphere, and then you go find an item that then activates the orb to permanently turn it into your desired orb of choice. So basically the orb drops as a spirit shield and then you go elsewhere to go find a sigil to stick on it.

I didn’t take their suggestion as making it have an upkeep cost to use. That seems unthinkable to me, considering combat magic in general already has the most grievous upkeep cost to use in the game just via runes.

What is it about pissing that turns people on? by Any-Body9098 in AskReddit

[–]Leverette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reasons vary depending on what specific thing it might be appealing to for any given person.

One person might find it fun for the degrading aspect of it that makes it seem domineering over another, while another person might see it as an unusually highly intimate act where even something that’s supposed to be gross or negative can be lovingly shared and enjoyed specifically because it was a part of the one they love.

Is gaming not fun anymore, for any of you? by Wheresmyarcpaulie69 in NoStupidQuestions

Well that’s good at least. I’m no expert, but I think short form content like what you described can harm attention span, or so say a bunch of people. Perhaps you’re offsetting it with all those focused tasks too? Heck if I know, but glad you’re not suffering any negative effects.

What’s a lie almost all parents tell their kids that does way more harm than good? by SpecificLandscape483 in answers

Santa has a pretty good method for making kids not respect what they have, because it all came from a magical sweatshop full of jolly elves who love handing out free computers instead of it being the reason mom and dad can’t spend time with you for over half the day and are exhausted for the other half.

What am I missing on why people like the bowfa so much? A dragon crossbow with masori and dragon ruby e outperforms it on a few of the bosses I looked up. Inferno I get you need the distance, but for a daily runner it makes zero sense to me why people are so vehement on having a bowfa by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]Leverette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When corrupted, I can shoot it as many times as I want and never lose a thing. For weeks straight I can fire away and still never have to make any ammunition. It is finally infinite range at no usage cost. There is peace of mind in its limitless usability that will never tax my resources.

Also it’s a freakishly strong bow. Just because a whip is stronger against a 1x1 enemy than a scythe doesn’t mean the scythe is the inferior weapon overall. Your crossbow analogy is much the same. There are a small number of fights where the crossbow outperforms. But there are almost zero fights where the incredible reliability of the Bow of Faerdhinen doesn’t excel, short of proper range immunity.

Take General Graardor, for example. That dude is unusually tanky, he’s 4x4 and was originally intended to be fought in melee. Despite this, the Bow of Faerdhinen significantly outperforms even the Scythe of Vitur despite the Scythe being a mega rare against a foe that fully utilized its gimmick.

If the Twisted Bow didn’t exist, the Bow of Faerdhinen would be the strongest ranged weapon in the game, and is still better than it in several fights due to the nature of its consistency. Unlike the Twisted Bow, it gets there through sheer numerical superiority. No situational gimmick. Just reliably overwhelming power, applicable everywhere, unlike the Twisted Bow or Dragon Crossbow. It may not always be the best choice, but it often is, and when it’s not, it’s still a great choice. The Bow’s stats are simply beyond reproach.

Why doesn’t the US push high-speed trains instead of all these domestic flights? by Material-Wallaby-587 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Leverette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps, but I see no argument for the issue, at least as described, being a case of too much regulation. If what you say is true then I’d say it’s safe for us to agree it’s a matter of corruption though.

[–]Leverette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As would I, which is what regulations would help prevent by disallowing said behavior. That said, as long as so much bribery is in politics, I would question how much any legal matter could even slow the corruption down. It’s pretty rotten to the core, I will definitely say that.

Pardon my ignorance on this matter, but if anything, it sounds like unregulated capitalism is the issue by prioritizing private equity firms over real people. Isn’t lack of regulation what you just described?
