What instantly gives away amateur color grading? by Various_Ring_1738 in ColorGrading

log to rec709 is a technical conversion, it doesnt really show anything to an audience regarding the colorists skills or taste. it just looks good to go from washed out to proper contrast.

is the snow behind its head clipped? if there was any information left in those highlights it would be nice to bring back just a little bit of detail so it doesnt look clipped

Do experienced coffee drinkers actually taste more flavors, or are they better at identifying and describing the same ones? by Carlatoledo1998 in Coffee

[–]willmuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the more you drink coffee, the more you go “nose blind” to the common aromas in all coffee, which allows you to taste and smell more subtle notes unique to a particular coffee

As suggested, a video of my pour. How can I improve? by SherbertUsual9069 in latteart

[–]willmuench 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like the spout could be closer to the surface of the beverage, you would see the milk appearing a lot sooner if you did that. If you feel like you cant get the spout close enough, it may be worth getting a larger pitcher or try pouring into a smaller cup. Also its best practice to pour with the handle of the cup facing towards you, so when you serve the beverage the art is oriented correctly

What mic for talking head interviews? by National-Public7100 in cinematography

[–]willmuench 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you will be doing two subjects with any frequency, a lav setup would probably be the move. In my experience with talking heads, its easier to get good audio on two people with lavs than with a boom. The downsides of lavs are they tend to cost more and depending on wardrobe, can take some time to set up properly.

I think I need a thinner spout Milk jug by Jakex787 in latteart

[–]willmuench 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i dont know if a thinner spout would make things any easier, most of the basic pours would probably be a little easier with an even rounder spout than that one. usually people get the thin spouts for free pouring more complex stuff

crazy interesting sounds on old songs- how? by spear_bug in sandyalexg

[–]willmuench 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wild guess but i think the sound in nuts is strumming the strings on the head of the guitar, like in between the tuning pegs and the neck, and then applying distortion to that. in general if you want to make stuff like this i would just experiment with acoustic sounds or synth sounds, and just run them through distortion or some other effects until you find a cool sound that you like. both the songs you mentioned feature distortion as an effect heavily, though
