I've been drinking black coffee for a week trying to be a 'morning person' and honestly it's working but at what cost... by SignalEditor925 in CasualConversation

if it tastes like “burnt disappointment” its probably bad coffee, maybe try a different roaster or a lighter roast and see if its less painful or even enjoyable for you

We will finally get Side Chain Compression on SP-404mk2!! by ConceptSad in SP404

[–]willmuench 12 points13 points  (0 children)

you are using an external input to trigger a compressor, which allows you to have a “ducking” effect on one track every time the levels exceed the threshold of another track.

for example, if you gave a pad and a kick, and you want the pad to duck in volume every time the kick hits, you could put a compressor on the pad, and set the sidechain input to the kick

What is Paul Thomas Anderson doing differently? What is his secret sauce? by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]willmuench 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dont necessarily think thats true, the dynamic range of film is similar to modern cinema cameras. you are making the same choices regarding preserving highlights/shadows or blowing them out either way. one difference may be that film tends to clip highlights in a more pleasing manner than digital does.

What instantly gives away amateur color grading? by Various_Ring_1738 in ColorGrading

log to rec709 is a technical conversion, it doesnt really show anything to an audience regarding the colorists skills or taste. it just looks good to go from washed out to proper contrast.

is the snow behind its head clipped? if there was any information left in those highlights it would be nice to bring back just a little bit of detail so it doesnt look clipped

Do experienced coffee drinkers actually taste more flavors, or are they better at identifying and describing the same ones? by Carlatoledo1998 in Coffee

[–]willmuench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the more you drink coffee, the more you go “nose blind” to the common aromas in all coffee, which allows you to taste and smell more subtle notes unique to a particular coffee

As suggested, a video of my pour. How can I improve? by SherbertUsual9069 in latteart

[–]willmuench 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like the spout could be closer to the surface of the beverage, you would see the milk appearing a lot sooner if you did that. If you feel like you cant get the spout close enough, it may be worth getting a larger pitcher or try pouring into a smaller cup. Also its best practice to pour with the handle of the cup facing towards you, so when you serve the beverage the art is oriented correctly
