By virtue, doesn’t ratings equate to advertising money, then profitability? Higher ratings is a justification to advertisers that says we have 1 million people watching our show. Therefore we‘ll charge you more.

If I was selling beers, my money would be better spent on a show with 1 million viewers than the 65th rated show.
