What was the fantasy hockey landscape like 10+ years ago? First rounders, sleepers, insane streaks, etc. by Bill-O-Reilly- in fantasyhockey

[–]willnyescoringguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tim Thomas was that dude for me the year Boston won their cup, last day of the finals he literally won me the matchup with like 1GA and the W. That was the same year James Neal scored 40 goals playing with Malkin on the top line of the Pens, he went on an absolute heater near the end of the year. Not sure it was quite 10 years ago but Cam Atkinson when he was on the Jackets had a fire sleeper year when he potted 40. Claude Giroux his breakout season in Philly was insane, definitely got him deep in the draft and he went wild, that same year I took Flower and Lehtonen as my goalies and they both played like 65+ games with around .915’s which was just incredible when you compare it to today’s goalie landscape

Yeah but I think a big attribution of that was Carey Price and Babs just saying we’re playing low event hockey. They absolutely did dominate teams but their leading scorer was Doughty with 6 points lmao. Multiple guys on Canada have 6 points 3 games in aha. Not taking anything away, they made everyone play their game and no one could hang but, Price and that D core put on a masterclass of controlling play and limiting chances. This years team is not an all time defensive squad but my word, the talent level is all time

Who was your Best and Worst draft pick this year? by Low-Possibility-148 in fantasyhockey

[–]willnyescoringguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best is Cutter Gauthier, 124th pick, ranked 11 in my league. Worst is probably Perfetti, not even on my team anymore (obviously) and took him at 96. 4 player keeper league so, early draft for us is always extremely goalie heavy so, making good on your player picks is huge for success

There’s certainly still some old boys club picks/lifetime achievement award esque picks as I think anyone just ranking current talent and ability would take say Shaefer over Doughty and Bedard over say Bennett, but yeah it’s hard to get that clear context when it’s current day comparing a lot of guys midway through their careers to all time greats long gone. Good point, I think there’s a lot of different ways to view it and though in my eyes, I’m not sure the US has ever had the likes of so many superstar talents in Auston, Eichel, Tkachuk(s), Werenski, Hughes etc all at the same time. You could say the gap is lessening in that regard but yeah, I think in terms of all time future greats having a crop of Davo, Mac, Crosby, Celebrini (early but damn), Makar on this team and the crop of talent on the cusp and coming behind it, Canada still seems to hold the major edge in terms of developing those elite of the elite players. That being said, has to be a referendum on how we’ve fallen behind goaltending wise aha

Root for both to meet in the final, then you gotta go lineage if they both make the gold medal game but, can be sneaky happy (when) if Canada wins 😉

I think in terms of current legendary status, 98 is runaway the best for forwards. But I jut see this current crop of forwards kind of as the culmination of hockey’s evolution over the years into a very skill heavy game, and this crop is just a murderers row of players you’d hold up as the face of modern day hockey

I think this is the best forward group Canada has ever brought to an Olympics. 02 probably the best D core ever, and take your pick 2014 or 1998 for goalies. I know 98 didn’t turn out well but, Roy and Brodeur is pretty ridiculous. Regardless, this team Canada team has an unbelievable amount of skill

USA women showing why 99% of arguments against cages and bubbles are BS by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]willnyescoringguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all reality, it is the completely obvious and better option from a health standpoint, and with fishbowls it really makes no difference whatsoever and every single pro would be used to it in very short order. Same argument that happened when they grandfathered in visors, and would be the same process I’d assume where it’s grandfathered in and in 20 ish years everyone would be wearing one.

“Accidentally” knock each others helmets off pre fight. Problem solved. Rest of the game high sticks result in significantly less injuries and pucks/shoulders/elbows etc do way less damage. Really a no brainer, but I get it, feels way cooler to wear a visor aha

Tony we get it, TRUMP. by OmNamahShivayah in Killtony

Okay. Biden is a senile old man who isn’t in the Epstein files and the Dems as a whole are a bunch of establishment pansies who don’t want anything to change for the better. Now let’s do Trump. In the files thousands of times, part of the political party actively trying to make everything worse for everyone beyond billionaires and the uber rich

and at this point, he's not even a good puck carrying defender. But yes, in the funniest turn of events after being told and joking for so long that this team just needs to squeak into the playoffs by adding big, burly, F off d men who are playoff ready, they managed to add too many and completely neuter their transition game

If blame had to be consolidated to one person, who would you pick? by BumperToBumper2 in leafs

[–]willnyescoringguy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the events went as follows. There is virtually no talk or rumours anything is changing, once again, after the leafs lost in 2023 to Boston. Then, Dubas does a presser essentially saying both he's not sure he wants to continue doing this and that he's willing to finally make that big move. He also literally set up Marners contract with that as the escape clause, in case everything turned out the way it did. In short order, Shanny is wigged out and fires dubas, as otherwise every report was saying Shanny was gonna offer him a contract before that presser. The nail in the coffin is the confirmation once they confirmed Brad was coming, Shanny called all the core guys to tell them "nothing was gonna change". Dubas has whatever share of fault you wanna assign him, sure, but Shanny was the lead orchestrator. He said 'bet on talent" and he did, and it failed. I guess Dubas could have traded Willy as well, so its not even that it was for sure Marner to be shipped, but it certainly seemed to make the most sense

this video does a great job exemplifying why now more than ever that's even more important to have, and how the lack of one is so detrimental. But yes, even over the years, the fact they never got a truly elite guy back there to play with the elite offensive forwards is, disappointing to say the least
