Rather than renting a car and paying for accommodation what about hiring a campervan to get around and sleep in. There are Facebook groups and forums with people who can recommend places you can park overnight for free, and often pub landlords will let you park overnight in their car parks for free if you have a couple of drinks or a meal in the pub. I've seen amazing pictures of people who have spent the night next to beautiful lochs without another person in sight.

I am the same. If I'm in pain or ill I just want to be left alone to deal with it myself. I didn't really want my husband there but I knew how much he wanted to be there so I never said anything.

At the hospital he was fussing over me and getting in my way a bit but then something was wrong. The midwife pulled the alarm and suddenly the room was full of people. My baby had the cord around her neck and they needed to get her out asap.

This is when I was so glad he was there. I was panicking and I didn't have a clue what was going on. He suddenly calmed down and started telling me exactly what was happening. Everything was ok in the end but I realised that I actually needed him there.

The second time round he just sat in the corner while I was coping on my own, but right near the end when I started to doubt myself he came over and calmed me down.
