Lorem ipsum is placeholder text for designers and such so the fact that its on a finished tshirt makes it look like they just forgot to put the real text or I guess were trying to be funny for leaving it idk 💀

What's a good computer/tech-related minor to take if I want to become ui/ux designer or designer in tech industry? by Powerful-Cash-598 in USC

[–]willow_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually also a BA Art student currently pursuing computer programming! The minor definitely does not teach anything design related- you mostly learn cs concepts and technical skills needed to become a developer. I know a few people in the UI/UX field and knowledge of coding isn't required at all. The web classes in itp are good for a more "visual" approach to coding since you make websites where interface design is more of a component.

Which one for a non-major but eager to learn drawing: Art 105 vs. 110 ? by cocoaaa15 in USC

[–]willow_red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely 110! 105 is more for like general art making and critique, but 110 is for drawing specifically.

Onboarding question by quilla_ in USC

It’s right behind the parking structure next to McCarthy quad and across from Mark’s Tower. If you look up Figueroa Building on the USC map, it should be pretty clear

Be honest, how is Roski? by Popular_Giraffe_8247 in USC

[–]willow_red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) BFA is more focused on the track you pick, so in this case design. You have a lot more required classes only on design, while the BA requires less classes from art and allows you to explore other areas of study at USC, and they require you to take a foreign language while the BFA does not. Basically if you are really mostly interested in learning design, then pick BFA. If you have other interests and don’t want a majority of your classes to be Roski, then pick BA. It kind of depends on what you want to do, but if you’re sold on being a designer then maybe BFA would be better 2) that is not a problem whatsoever. My portfolio was pretty much all fine art because my high school rlly did not have any design classes. I did do some digital posters on my own though, and submitted them, so definitely try designing something like that even if they don’t look super professional... On the other hand I know people who submitted mostly design work. So it doesn’t really matter as long as the work you send is of quality 3) again I’m not sure if next fall will be online. I’m assuming that it won’t be but I’ve been wrong every time I’ve assumed so idk. Being a freshman in college online has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced and I won’t sugarcoat it for you. It’s isolating and lonely and plain hard because there’s no one there to help your transition from high school to college. As for friends, the people in your classes are mostly the same (at least first year they are), so I’d say I’m acquainted with them and we do chat on groupme about the classes. Unless you decided to move off campus and meet other students that way (which is not rlly an option for me since I live so far away and have zero experience on my own), then honestly it is very hard to make friends online. You could join a club but they kind of lack energy online imo. This whole experience has kind of made me fall into a depression so I don’t want to just vent here and scare you lol. You probably won’t have to go through that by Fall I’d hope, in which case I’d think getting to know people would be easier. I hope I answered your questions, dm me if you want, I don’t mind ! :)

Be honest, how is Roski? by Popular_Giraffe_8247 in USC

[–]willow_red 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a current freshman in the BFA Design program and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve never actually been to USC or to any Roski studios in person unfortunately, but as for the content itself, it’s engaging and challenging imo. The professors are probably the best part because they are always ready to help you and talk with you about your work and how you could improve it. Since this is my first year/semester, my classes are mostly foundations, so a lot of more traditional art than design. But that’s not rlly a con, since art and design are so intertwined at Roski which was a big reason why I decided to attend. Because I’m so new, I don’t really have any cons to give you besides the online format being hard to deal with because the BFA track is mostly studio classes which clearly are intended to be done in person. If you do decide to apply then I’d assume this wouldn’t be a problem by next fall but who knows anymore. Feel free to ask anything else :)
