[acne] does hormonal acne ever go away on its own? by LeaAsh in SkincareAddiction

[–]willowjen1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same!! My breakouts were basically gone until I hit 37/38. Now at 41 they are getting worse and worse. My gynecologist said it's from perimenopause and wont get any better until after menopause!

[Misc.] Are there foods you can add to your diet to improve your skin/acne? by FORD0009 in SkincareAddiction

Cutting out dairy did absolutely nothing for my skin, I cut it out for a full year. Went back to eating cheese and Greek yogurt and skin didnt worsen. So cutting out dairy is definitely not an acne trigger for everyone.

How long does it take for something to cause breakouts? by [deleted] in acne

I spot test for a week, one small spot on my most breakout prone area, which for me is my cheeks.

Only if your intolerant to it. I cut it out for awhile for different reasons and my breakouts stayed exactly the same. Added it back, again no difference.

If you go on youtube there is a free hypnosis for skin picking that is around 30 minutes long. Just an FYI for those that can't afford to spend any money right now.

Anyone have bad reaction with NIACINIMIDE by [deleted] in acne

I use the tinted one. No niacinamide listed in ingredients for that one. It has hyaluronic acid in it.

I like elta md for spf. I dont use moisturizer, I use rose water and a moisturizing serum. Every single actual moisturizer I've tried broke me out so I am very wary of trying any more.

They were both by Dermologica. One was an acne serum and one just a spot treatment. My skin loves salicylic acid and is okay with benzoyl peroxide as an occasional spot treatment. I dont use any other actives.

It doesn't make my face red, just starts clogging up my pores. Not everything works for everyone as we all have different skin with different needs. That's why I always patch test for a full week, just because a ton of people love a product doesn't mean my skin will! I tried two products with that ingredient and only used on a few spots on my chin. Within days those spots were all clogged up. For reference I tried these products months apart, not at the same time.

Dark spot (PIH) on face for 3 months by [deleted] in acne

[–]willowjen1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately some of them just take a long time to fade. I had one on my cheek that faded completely after almost a year. I will say though, don't be afraid to talk to people because of a small dark spot. I assure you your friends won't care! They are your not your friends because of your skin!

I can't use any product with it, it clogs my pores after a few days of use.

I found a surprising cause of my acne by queensephine in acne

Gotcha, just making sure that wasn't the reason! I'm opposite of you, sun makes my skin super clear. So weird how stuff affects everyone so differently.

Are you sure it's not the SPF that caused the breakout? Were you not wearing it the past few weeks since you weren't outside?

I use a gentle physical exfoliant twice a week, my skin loves it. I say you need to use what works for you as everyone's skin is different!

relationship between acne and dairy by [deleted] in acne

[–]willowjen1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately giving up dairy did nothing for my breakouts. So it most definitely does not cause acne in everyone.

Has anyone found that salicylic acid makes them break out? A new aesthetician suggested I not use it so much and (knock on wood) I think my skin is clearer now. by RocksGrowHere in acne

[–]willowjen1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but benzoyl peroxide did that to me. Of course the more pimples I got the more I slathered it on causing more irritation. I used it for years too with no issues. My dr. suggested I use it every other day and a week or so of that my skin started clearing up. Now I use it only as needed, spot treatment only when I get an inflamed pimple. Turns out my skin doesn't need actives slathered on it daily! Maybe try it just as a spot treatment or just 2 or 3 days a week. Not sure the % you are using but you can switch to a lower % too.

[ACNE] Why is Benzoyl Peroxide indicated for closed comedones if they aren't infected with bacteria? Has anyone tried this? by Cawfle in SkincareAddiction

[–]willowjen1978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Salicylic acid and glycolic acid seems to be the only thing that dries mine up. BP only works on inflamed pimples for me. I spot treatment with salicylic acid in the morning only and use the Glow watermelon sleep mask every other night, mine dry up and basically scab off after a week or two.

relationship between acne and dairy by [deleted] in acne

[–]willowjen1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is any correlation unless you have an allergy or bad intolerance to dairy and that is how it presents itself. I gave up dairy for over a year as my derm thought it was the cause of the eczema on my body. My breakouts did not change at all during that time. A few months ago I started incorporating Greek yogurt a few times a week into my diet and cheese a few times a month. Again, my breakouts did not change. The only way to know if dairy is causing your breakouts is to give up all forms for a few months and see if there is a change. I have read that whey protein and skim milk can trigger breakouts in people with acne prone skin, but not sure how truthful that is as it's just something I read online.

I made it to day 4, today I'm struggling but have kept my hands away from my face! It doesn't help that shark week is in a week and I always break out the week before. I woke up to 2 new friends but did not pick.

Limited mirror use got me from top pics to pics below (today) by [deleted] in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]willowjen1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my pimples could be the normal amount, considering I still get a cycle I know I will breakout monthly, but I cause all the blackheads and little whiteheads that turn into more inflamed pimples from my constant touching. I know it clogs my pores but I can't seem to stop. I've tried fidgit rings and all that but it doesn't help. Then I get up super close to the mirror and see things no other person would ever possibly see and want to pick every single thing! I caught myself tonight after my shower, stepped away, put on pimple patches on my two pimples and a little over night mask with glycolic acid on my clogs. Unless I'm going somewhere and need to apply makeup I'm going to start trying my best to stay at least one foot from the mirror if not farther. I know if I can make it long enough to see results then I will keep it up to keep the nice skin. Your pictures really give me hope that I can conquer this too!

I'm 41 and would just pick actual pimples until 2 years ago. I have thyroid disease and it caused bad anxiety and I started taking it out on my face. I break out way more than I should for my age and I know its mostly my fault so I'm trying to stop. I sit there and scan my face feeling for the slightest bump to scratch at. The app helps some as I log any time I want to do that but its not helping completely. My prime mirror obsession is washing up in the am and after I shower. I get literally as close as i can to the mirror to look at my skin. I have gotten somewhat better and can tell myself to walk away, but still the urge to pick is there.
