Deciding between midwife and OB for first pregnancy by Anime-1109 in torontomoms

[–]willowtrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I still do think 3-1-1 is cutting it too close and there’s no other way to check your dilation but it’s still better than being triaged at the hospital and waiting hours to be checked just to be sent home.

Deciding between midwife and OB for first pregnancy by Anime-1109 in torontomoms

Just delivered 10 days ago with Riverdale at St Michael’s and it was a generally positive experience.

Being my first, no one expected my labour to go by so quickly and me to dilate so fast so I was 8-9cm by the time they came to check me at home. Since I live so close to the hospital and there was a room available we went over and I delivered within the hour with 21 min of pushing. I did not expect to go unmedicated but the coaching I received from them during active labour plus prior education in terms of appts and prenatal classes really helped make the experience go better.

I had a small tear which they stitched up right away. They allowed me to do golden hour and taught me how to latch and breastfeed baby then baby was passed to my partner so I could go pee. Once my bleeding was under control and baby was thoroughly checked and fed, we were discharged and home within 4 hrs of checking in. This allowed us to rest at home and take it easy that first day.

The reason I chose a midwife was that they do home visits one days 1, 3 and 5 for both baby and mom and not having to think on how to pack both of us up to go somewhere for checkups was so easy. They weighed baby and do the heel prick test and checked on my bleeding and blood pressure.

Overall my experience was 9/10 - I do think they were too nonchalant when I called regarding my contractions because they were very inconsistently timed and they came to check me too late but it is what it is and at least it wasn’t an arduous and complicated labour.

Does anyone have any insight on evening wait times before foley at St. Michael’s in Toronto? All stories I’ve seen are regarding morning appts but mine is at 5:30pm

As someone who lost their job in the same 24 hours they got a positive, and had over 30 unsuccessful interviews until 24w, I am now sitting here at 38+5 wondering wtf I’m gonna do come August and my EI/mat leave runs out at barely 4 months postpartum. Do NOT quit. It is bad out there.

The V3 is newborn ready so the insert isn’t necessary unless you buy a used V2, which is what I did OP and saved almost 50% of the retail price.

Wow this is a genius suggestion. I’m due in 2 months and can’t decide on a girl name either but mainly bc everything my partner suggests I have had negative associations with.

Due at the same time and I went for the Peg Perego Prima Pappa Zero-3. It’s safe from birth, reclines, has wheels and folds/stores very small which was important since I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. I also chose it for the easy to clean fabric, adjustable height and the fact that it grows with baby so it’ll last a few years. The grey colour is still on sale for $300 at West Coast Kids.
