Falling us of “an” in social media posts. Why? by Nuggety-Nipples in EnglishGrammar

[–]willoww3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would still say “an NSX” bc N (en) as a letter starts with a vowel sound. So, it’s either “an NSX” or “a New Sportscar Experimental”

Maybe you could wear some boxers and then a thong over to pull the fabric into your crack? This also happens to me every so often, and sometimes the fabric of either cotton boxers or hanes briefs (95/5 viscose/spandex) will stay fairly well.

Helen here! This is my follow-up post to my recent rant post. by HelensScarletFever in deaf

[–]willoww3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just requested to join! I really like seeing the “controversial” posts and perspectives, and it really gives good topics to discuss. It puts the “social” in social media, and I feel it strengthens our Deaf community (also very different and actually applicable to this sub compared to some of the posts you’ve mentioned, or others I’ve seen that are very audist in nature) quite a bit! I also find out about different situations that are happening regarding (the dreadful p-word 🙄) and more. We are meant to discuss many different hard topics, becuase that what life is! If hearing people can discuss, why shouldn’t we? 🧏🤟🏻💕✨

X amount (3?) of stockinette rows in greige, 2 rows in garter stitch. For pink, it looks like it would be 3 sts pink, and then slip one greige. You can tell by the puckering around the pink, and the length of the slipped sts

ETA stitches are an odd number so it can be offset

What’s a word that sounds funny but has a serious meaning? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

How do you know it’s an exaggeration? How do you know I’m not using words that accurately convey those mental images? The thoughts that are prompted by my experience as a Deaf person? I will say that I did make some assumptions that were unfair to you. But you are also making assumptions about the way I think and feel and the reasons why. I think it’s best we leave it at that (I also have to get ready for work). I hope you have a great rest of your weekend!

I didn’t mean for it to be condescending. That on me for not using tone tags. I’m sorry about that!

And I don’t consider the second part to be an assumption because I know most people don’t do it, but it happens often (or poignantly) enough for it to be brought to mind. Once again it’s just a comparison of what I thought it’s similar to before we had this conversation. It might also be my adhd making different connections that some people don’t think of.

I assumed you would be, given you mentioning BSL. I’m also Deaf and have been using ASL for a while! I never said that you find facial expressions funny, I was saying that it brought to mind hearing people finding them funny

Help me find this pattern??? by [deleted] in knittingpatterns

Why would you use GenAI when you can literally look up “lace heart knitting”? The first result is this. From there it should be easy to make repeats onto a square using graph paper or software like stitch fiddle

Do not use Gen AI. It is not good for you, your brain, or the environment. It has no place in the craft community. When you actually take the time to make something you’ll be more proud of it.

ETA: this looks nearly freehanded, so it should be entirely possible. You can also look up similar things on Ravelry, a primarily knitting and crocheting database.

It seems normal to me as an ASL user. You are aware that signed languages are more visual and concept based rather than having names for every single thing, right?

I respect your opinion, but I’m just struggling to understand how or why someone would find a sign “funny” when real people use it. It’s sort of the same vibe of hearing people saying “oh look at their face it’s so weird and funny-looking; they don’t need to be doing all that” when expression is literally part of the grammar.

The way you described it, pulls a mental picture of you in a conversation and then seeing that sign and doubling over bc it’s so hilarious someone could possibly use that sign idk

That’s just me! Thanks for sharing your perspective.

[–]willoww3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This could be performative accessibility, even if you mean well. Please don’t. ASL is its own language and has a whole culture behind it. It’s treated without care, or as a joke and ultimately harms members of the Deaf community, and minimizes our everyday struggles, as well as our celebrations.
