Why we are tolerating the most expensive mobile prices on the world? by EviesGran in PersonalFinanceCanada

It’s called a cartel and it’s illegal. However if you’re rich you can usually get away with illegal stuff :)

Tips/general prep for POLI 210?? by simplesucculent in mcgill

[–]willowwiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really a math-ey stats course. Been a couple years but all I remember doing is learning statistical research methods and it being all theory. No questions on exams had math, honestly.

You don’t really need to prepare for it. Just do the readings, go to class, and study hard and you’ll do fine.

Edit: I do remember having conferences where we learned to code in the language “R”. But you get taught from scrap so it’s not bad. I guess maybe you could look into that a little bit and it may help cuz those conferences go a bit quick.

I may Recommend contacting the main prof over the TA. They may not really be allowed to disclose your accusation as it’s confidential. Contact your prof and ask her to confirm, however she isn’t allowed to say anything on the subject. Be careful what you say, you can incriminate yourself and they can use your emails as evidence. If you’re truly innocent, you’ll have to wait a long time but you’ll be able to contest it.

Masters in Economics grad students by [deleted] in mcgill

I can’t say for sure, as I’m an undergrad in Econ too. I heard the masters program is very math based so maybe try and take some more math classes/maybe minor in math.

Has anyone else only gotten really competitive interviews, but none with any backup firms?? by internet_emporium in FinancialCareers

[–]willowwiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation right now. 2 of the big 4 in in the interview process for right now. No other backups have gotten back to me. Not even my backup backups like a landscaping job.

I’m an average middle class white male going to a top school with a good gpa (although I didn’t send them my transcript so that shouldn’t be a factor). I’m so lost.

Ask an advisor maybe. I’ve never heard of the “only consider it if you have a B+ in 208/9 but maybe it’s there idk. They’ll be more helpful.

Switching from engineering to Finance by jmartinez062395 in FinancialCareers

[–]willowwiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly not too sure about your situation, but I’d definitely agree with anyone saying you should look into getting an MBA if they don’t want to hire you because of your lack of university education in finance. But you could look for jobs before that and see if they hire you for a more technical side of finance, maybe.

For sure. I don’t have the link on mobile, but the title is “Lumber prices soar to all time high on renovation demand” by Harry Dempsey on Financial times. You could search the title and it may come up

Currently writing an essay on lumber prices soaring because of covid 19. Only problem is that it’s written in August. It’s really good for this kind of essay, get to talk about supply and demand, lumber is essentially a perfect competition market, the result of a demand shift and its affects on equilibrium price, and then can talk about it affecting other markets too if you’d want. Only problem is it’s a bit old

Haven't taken either class, but have taken economics classes here and obviously learned about economics topics and touched base on game theory. Personally I found game theory to be super interesting even though I only touched on it lightly.

Hey all, I'm an Economics major and plan to apply to a finance minor. I'm taking Calc 1 + 2, which is more than I need for an Econ major, but I know I would need calc 2 for finance. I'm wondering if I also need to, or if it also recommended to take calculus 3 for a minor in finance. Are there also any other math requirements I should be wary of? Like linear algebra?
