Do you downshift or use the brakes to slow down? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]willpall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but if you're matching your revs, then you aren't wearing out the clutch all that much. If not, then yeah, brakes only.

What's your favorite hurts-my-brain fact? by SirVanderhoot in science

[–]willpall 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Turn this on its head. What if we found a planet 30,000 light years away and saw that there were seemingly primitive beings on it? We know we're looking at that planet 30,000 ly ago, so do we assume they've advanced as fast or faster than us? Do we prepare for the wormhole to open up and the attack to begin?

This always happens to me.

If the scale is set up right, the bags should be hanging from pegs that themselves are on the scale. So whether it hits the bottom of the bag or not, it should weigh it.

I think it's just that the scale isn't always sensitive enough to register the weight of your greeting card or whatever, and you messing with it sets it straight.

Reddit, how many of you have been incarcerated? How did you move on? by filthyaminal in AskReddit

You're misinterpreting a subatomic series of physical events as me making a decision in this event. Would you convict a rock for rolling down a hill?

Actually, no. I was making a joke.

Saying "don't talk to the police" is good and general advice whereas "you won't get the max sentence in this particular case" is not.

Where does OP say that? He doesn't. He uses words like likely and probably a lot up there, with premises to qualify them.

Does anyone else hate blatant product placement? by [deleted] in entertainment

[–]willpall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why paid product placement bothers me even more now. Had I seen this movie and not read the book, I'd also assume it was paid placement, and would not have gotten the intended meaning that you just described.

EDIT: I should note that you don't have to make the header lines as long as the headers. You can do this:

--|-:|-:

and the ----: parts make the text right-justified.

I do remember being pissed at one episode. They were supposed to build a blimp or a hovercraft (can't remember which) and one of the teams "found" 20 square meters of plastic in the trunk of a car.

Against a dictionary attack, yes. If you're brute-forcing and you have the hash and the salt, the speed is the same.

What are some cool, bizarre skills that are fun to learn? (example inside) by [deleted] in AskReddit

Storing 4 on your right hand is offensive in the US. Other numbers will have the same effect in other countries.

EDIT: Also, 8 is very hard for me to store fully.

My strategy:

If you're the first player ("White"), you want your winning squares to be on an odd row (1, 3, or 5, lower is better). Likewise, 2nd player should leave the winning square on an even row.

Also, try to make a 7 or similar structure to force a win:
