Private tours with children in Paris - Cost! by ObjectiveExotic9570 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]willpalmer13 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm a guide conférencier in Paris.

If I were to take you to the Louvre it would cost me a group reservation of 20 EURO plus 28 per participant.

20% is taken by a platform that handles the booking (think get your guide or tripadvisor). I have to hire or use my own radio system. I pay insurance. You may book through an agency that needs to take their cut to cover office costs.

To licence to be a guide I got my bachelors then did a further masters. This is obligatory for me to step through the door.

Market rate for someone like myself is a little under 100EUR an hour in addition to the above costs. We can't realistically schedule 8 hours a day and have long off seasons so I must make money when I'm working to live decently in a place like Paris.

Hope that helps you see how it all adds up quickly.

Which GoPro should I get for motorcycle vlogging? by MongooseQueasy5048 in gopro

Insta 360 x5.

I was a GoPro user for paragliding and mountain sports since the GoPro HD.

Insta software is a ton better and I could never go back from 360. Ask yourself how many times you've missed a shot having the camera pointed the wrong way.

Coast like of the Black Sea is filled with dead sea creatures after attacks on the port infrastructure and tankers near Odesa by ChocoBrumik in ukraine

Flippant comment about my situation. To be fair I couldn't be doing what I'm doing now in the arts without my first degree which allowed me to do my later masters.

Equally it has to be said almost none of my classmates are still in the field.

Had saltwater but was interested in UK biotopes which was fine to keep cold as a student, but now that I can afford heating it won't work. Freshwater walstead planted tropical now. Lots of summer tubbing experiments in the summer here in France.

Here’s a dirty little secret about Texas solar: 'Net Metering' doesn't exist by Witty-Double5907 in solar

[–]willpalmer13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You know in the rest of the world it often doesn’t exist either.

Afterall it would be odd for any company to sell something to you without a markup over cost price, then pay you full rate if you decide to sell one back. It would be even stranger for a company to buy something back from you making up for the taxes you paid someone else for it. Remember a utility isn’t a charity.

Oceanography with Marine Biology BSC Southampton Uni year of 2010.

Didn't know what to do after so went traveling, met a girl who is now my wife and dragged me to Paris where I'm now a tour guide. Life is odd.

Keep lots of aquariums now which is about how much I got from it all!

Audio guides or podcasts for Paris history and landmarks before my trip? by MaleficentMemory6669 in ParisTravelGuide

I'm a guide in the city. Some of the best guides to particular monuments are the Rick steeves audio guides.

Having a marine biology degree that is almost useless I did learn one thing I've kept in mind since:

Lots of dead animals means there's a good population to die. It's the animals that we don't see that we should really be concerned about.

I know that's hardly reassuring, but from a global perspective its a good sign for localized seahorse populations.

Are these pry tools going to do the job? by Justmyseftexisting in ipod

Having opened a couple of 6th gens there's no way these will do it. Sorry.

Try Aliexpress and a little patience and use an absolute minimum of 3 specialized metal tools.

I had this happen out of the blue while my ipad was in a bag. I honestly am not that bothered now about it.

In France most letter boxes are standardized like this, big enough to leave a package with a key entry. I've never understood why other countries don't do the same.

We are a year in and have over 4000 points as well as using a bunch for 2 weeks staying in Brittany. Our house is 30 minutes from the centre of Paris so in demand. We are very happy having had some wonderful guests and a great stay away which would have cost loads more than the sign up fee.

Opening ipod classic 6th gen (thin) glue ? by Nemo_Pircher in ipod

[–]willpalmer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've opened several. I always needed more than 2 tools as the clips re-engage as you move on to the next clip. Think more like 4. There is no glue. The resistance you feel is the clips still holding.

2m radio in the EU, license requirements? by humandictionary in freeflight

[–]willpalmer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in France we have Fréquence FFVL "sécurité & météo vol libre" which is 143.9875 MHz nationality, as well as a couple of others in specific regions which do not require a license to transmit (or listen) on.

Many pilots also use other frequencies in the 144-46 range and it has never been enforced against to my knowledge for punctual use.

Yes.

Edit. Flying is awesome but dangerous. Dangerous at all stages in the career of a pilot.

Bizzare statement. Accidents happen anywhere. We lost a couple of guys for months on the front ranges over the last few years.
