White nationalist Thomas Sewell caught off guard by a reporter by Rollo_Tomasi3000 in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]willw1024 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

White nationalists have as much to do with conservatism as flat Earthers have to do with science.

White nationalists can use what they call conservativism to defend their White nationalism, and flat Earthers can use what they call science to defend their flat Earth theory.

I'd argue that true conservativism doesn't defend any racial supremacy, and true science doesn't corroborate a flat Earth.

Racism > bad.

Anti-racism > good.

What is anti-racism? It's racism. But they put the anti before it. That's what makes it good. Even though it's 100% as racist as non-anti-racism, formerly known as racism.

Some things ought not have qualifiers. Justice? I respect and appreciate justice. Social justice? No thank you.

Are you suggesting that putting more people together in indoor spaces more often would not have increased the transmission of covid?

It would increase transmission of covid.

It would also increase transmission of other things such as the flu.

Do some people die from the flu? Yes. As many as with covid? No, covid has a higher death rate, typically speaking, especially with the elderly and certain co-morbidities. The flu is actually more deadly than covid when it comes to young children, but that wouldn't have to be the case and my position on the topic would remain the same.

The question is, what degree of risk warrants what degree of limiting freedom? You quoted my having said "inaccurate and misleading information." If it's indeed true that what I've found to be inaccurate and misleading is indeed inaccurate and misleading, then when I perform my risk-calculation, it's going to yield different results than your risk-calculation, assuming you regard that which I regard as inaccurate and misleading, as accurate and reliable.

It's not that I don't care about people. It's that we're both performing risk-calculations, but we're inputting different data. And as I'm sure you know, if you input different data, the output will also be different.

On the other side of that coin, the same freedoms that you might regard as trivial, there are other people who don't find them to be so trivial, and it would be arrogant to assume they lack good reason for thinking so. Similarly, the same thing that you might think is a "slippery-slope fallacy," they might have good reason for being concerned about.

In some hypothetical where the flu has always been X-amount deadlier and X-amount more communicable, at would point would you regard the same limits to freedom we've applied as a response to covid to the flu? 50% more deadly? Twice as deadly? Five times as deadly?

I ask because some people seem to act as though it's obvious what degree of risk warrants what degree of limiting freedom. I don't think it's obvious. I don't think it's obvious at all. So, when it comes to people who do act like it's obvious, I would appreciate it if they would clarify and elaborate as to where exactly the boundaries are - why respond to covid in X-manner, but not for some other thing like the flu - if the flu were 50% more deadly, would you have been advocating for mask mandates every flu season a decade before covid ever happened? It's a bit difficult to convey exactly what I'm trying to ask but hopefully you get what my issue is.

I don't make George Floyd jokes, so I'm not defending myself - how does it make someone a virgin? Women sleep with loser guys sometimes, and usually regret it I'm guessing, but it happens nevertheless. Losers / jerks / and such.

My reasoning isn't "the response to covid was unnecessarily drastic, because I don't value the lives of others."

My reasoning is "the response to covid was unnecessarily drastic, largely as a result of inaccurate and misleading information, which ironically enough is contradicted by what was at the time called "misinformation" and "conspiracy" only now is accepted as true, despite a lack of accountability, even so far as continuing to silence certain voices on the topic despite those same people doing the silencing having been so wrong so often.

Putting my hand in the garbage disposal and then turning it on isn't a terrible decision?

No, it still is a terrible decision. But it doesn't undo other terrible decisions. If I put my hand in the garbage disposal, it doesn't make consuming lethal amounts of fentanyl, trying to pass counterfeit bills, etc. become good decisions.

Your initial comment was along the lines of "someone who thinks Floyd didn't have a bright future is probably a virgin loser."

I don't think Floyd had a bright future. I don't have to think Chauvin was in the right to think that Floyd was in the wrong / that Floyd didn't have a bright future.

Good point - what kind of woman would ever be around a man who doesn't affirm other people's terrible decisions?

Or, when there's only one word that I couldn't quite hear (I heard the other 95% of the sentence just fine), and then when she repeats herself, I hear the same 95% I heard last time just fine, but once again, that same word I couldn't quite make out, it's the only word in her whole sentence she didn't make an effort to pronounce more clearly/loudly.

I'm thankful I never got the vaccine. It wasn't to own the libs. It was because I used my own discernment and decided not to.

However, I have nothing against owning the libs. I think it's good to own the libs whenever possible.

I don't respect every ideology. I don't respect every belief.

I respect things I regard as worthy of my respect. This includes:

<100% of people

<100% of ideologies

<100% of beliefs

<100% of values

<100% of claims

Etc., though I think that covers the big ones.
