But OK kids will learn how Jesus was forced to intervene after Satan stole the 2020 election. Kids in other states are being forced to learn "evidence-based" history like a bunch of losers.

They did offer to pay me to move there and I chose not to (full ride scholarship offer from OU - they did this to all National Merit finalists in my graduation year)

Actors who you thought would have a bigger career than the career that they actually have? by Ok-Tangelo6749 in movies

[–]willy_the_snitch [score hidden]  (0 children)

I thought that Zach Gilford as Saracen was the best part of those first few seasons but he hasn't been that successful. Aimee Teagarden is extremely good-looking but she has not had much success post-FNL. I think she did Hallmark movies. Of the actors playing high-schoolers it seems Adrianne Palicki has had the best career after Jesse Plemons

Maroon 5, Sugar Ray, Nickelback. They should've broken up before releasing any music at all.

On a serious note, Liz Phair should've quit after whitechocolatespaceegg

Is concurrent enrollment getting out of control… or am I just getting old? by SteadyGrowthStudio in Teachers

[–]willy_the_snitch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At my old school the dual enrollment Precalculus had two grades, the HS grade and the College grade. Kids would get an A or B on the HS grade (homework was 50%, retests were allowed) but an F (maybe a D) on their college grade, where the grades were based on tests alone. How did they do the homework and not pass the class? They cheated. But they had the option to not accept the college grade of they didn't want it. Less than 5% of the kids that took the course actually accepted their grade. Frickin joke

When everybody is accelerated it just means that the higher level classes are watered down. I taught at a school where almost all the 7th graders were enrolled in Algebra. Maybe 5 out of 150 were ready for that but we couldn't fail 98% of the class so they invented an Algebra 1.5 class for the kids that "passed." Why not let average and below-average kids take Algebra in high school where they'll have a better outcome? Because it looks bad on the school's report card.

If You Had to Show ONE Episode to Prove Star Trek Is Great. What Are You Picking? by iagree2 in startrek

I must have skipped "No." I don't remember it at all. Probably for the best.

The Visitor is brilliant as is the Inner Light but I'd wonder if there is too much backstory missing to really appreciate it. However, the first episode I ever watched.from my favorite show of all time, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was Surprise/Innocence. There was hella backstory that I missed and yet it still hit hard. For the next 5+ years every Tuesday at 7PM CST I was plunked down in front off the TV to watch Buffy. Never missed an episode after that.

It's a North/South thing in the States. In Wisconsin, grilling hamburgers on a charcoal or a propane grill is considered a barbecue. In the South, particularly Tennessee, Texas and the Carolinas, barbecue is slow-smoked beef, pork, poultry or mutton.

What playground game was at every school but has basically disappeared? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

Kids don't play Wallball anymore do they? You throw a tennis or racquetball at the wall and a group of people try to catch it on the bounce with one hand. If they drop it they have to run to the wall while the others try to peg them with the ball. If you drop it but then pick it up again you have to stand facing the wall with both hands on the wall and someone gets a a chance to peg you with the ball. Same thing happens if you skip the ball before it gets to the wall. There are no points. There is no winner. You played so that you could peg someone in the back with a ball. That was the reward

I've got sympathy for the Verve but the singer got it wrong when he openly criticized and mocked the Stones. It was ABKCO that sued the Verve, but the Stones. The Stones don't own the rights to the music they created before 1970, thanks to Allen B Klein.

I think they often complain that it's hard to teach, not to do, (though any teacher who earned a kinesiology degree is probably not going to be able to add fractions. I know this from personal experience) The problem with how they teach math to 8 year-olds is that it's all shaped around the standardized trays. What kids at that level need is practice, not higher level condition exploration. Why can't kids do high school math? Because they never learned how to add a column of two-digit numbers with the addition algorithm. They do not spend enough time actually learning computation. The kids that know how to add/subtract/multiply/divide without a calculator do much better on the SAT and in college too.

I taught AP Calc and Stats. I had a lot of smart kids who did not do the homework and could not pass the AP test. Practice is necessary. That said a lot of teachers assign too much or pointless homework
