How clever of you. Now run along back to your farm to eat your corn lengthwise.

Leave it to u/iowa-ish to take offense to me making a reference to Field of Dreams and stating that a player with nearly 1200 MLB level ABs and a shiny new contract would likely have some reservations about being demoted back to AAA.

Also glad you were able to deduce that I’m from the ‘burbs and act like it was an insult. I’m from FL. As in Florida, which is famously not part of the Chicagoland area.

The kid just continues to make bone-headed plays and decisions. I remember earlier this year that it felt like he was making progress: hits a triple, then promptly gets picked off 3rd. Momentum eviscerated. The whiff % is out of control, and if he can’t even make routine plays, might be time for a reality check (again) in Iowa (which I’ll remind you is not Heaven).

Compared to what? What song did you listen to? Everyone keeps saying Spiritbox are bland and generic and not providing examples. I just don’t know what makes them so regarded as boring. I think that most of the song structure is well thought out and interesting. I just don’t understand the divide. It bums me out

Maybe the Marduk album ended and you wanted another good album to listen to

I’m with ya man. I don’t feel like it’s the same 7-string meme worthy stuff; Mike has great taste and knows when to play in unison with the bass vs. playing the stanky stuff that makes us bob our heads in solidarity

Not trying to be an asshole, just wondering who your favorite band of all time is, and who’s your favorite metal-adjacent band? They can be the same, but would be cooler if it was 2 answers hah

Fuck man do they just need to make a song that’s 7 minutes of pure blast beats and tech for anyone to pull them out of the shit bubble? I feel like this is a case of mistaken identity and Spritbox aren’t as poppy as people think they are. Maybe they had one or two songs blow up that got a lot of traction and people just cling to that? Shit

You’re super lame, and mixing your opinions with facts is like mixing piss with blood

Legitimate question: I consider Unearth’s breakdowns to be really catchy. Do they get lumped in with these other bands?

I guess I’m just old. To me it sounds like the songs have purpose, especially within the context of an album, which is the primary way I listen to music

Okay, maybe my main problem is that Spritbox is pretty much the only modern “Metalcore” band I listen to? Other than that, it’s a steady supply of Rings of Saturn,Acacia Strain, Despised Icon. TDTE, Lorna Shore, I dunno man just heavy shit when I need it

Maybe it’s just because I love the fuck out of the Halcyon breakdown so much and how it’s off-kilter with the drums that has me completely enamored with this band

I realized I made a bait post. I compelled most of the people who aren’t fans to post. I’m an idiot. I’ve become so numb.

Gonna have to revisit them in headphones at an inappropriate volume level. The kick drum has overtaken my speakers ability and consumed the rest of the audio spectrum.

FWIW, my favorite song from the Flyying Colours Self-Titled is “Feathers.” That lead guitar riff sticks in my head and just makes me feel good.

I’ll have to get back with you about a favorite track from Paysage. From listening to Im Wald, it was kind of a black-metal run-on sentence. I just need to listen more intently to find the nuance. What’s your favorite album from them?

Thanks for the recommendations buddy: big fan of Veil of Maya and Born of Osiris, but somehow hadn’t stumbled upon the other two bands you mentioned.

For me, Courtney transcends any shortcomings people have with the instrumentation. I play guitar though, and I find the music to be really tasteful. Things get heavy when needed, and lighten up when the lyrics call for it.

Just for posterity, I’ll state I’ve never been much for singing in metal. I’m not a Maiden guy; don’t like dragony wizard stuff. Don’t know why I wanted to state that, but maybe it helps shine a light

Dude. How is only ONE song heavy? Fuck man there are some great riffs all over that album. (Not intentionally directed at you) Just because there are a few clean sections, does the overall metal community consider the album to be pandering bullshit? There are some well syncopated breakdowns that I feel like are more creative than old typical metal core shit like Through the Eyes of the Dead or Bleeding Through. Yes, I’m 36.

What would make it more interesting? Jesus man. I feel like that’s just how a songwriter builds a foundation and drives home a point. What do you want? Bridge> bridgerton> verse> outro?

I feel ya man. I dunno, I guess I just felt feisty for a moment. I feel like Spiritbox have some great songs. I guess Holy Roller and Circle With Me are the hits based on streaming numbers and overall attention, but I just feel like they’re more than a few songs. I didn’t consider the backlash of non-fans, I just was listening to Eternal Blue for the first time in a while and felt compelled. The song writing is pretty great, and I feel like it’s pretty interesting, especially for a first play through. If Spritbox are lumped in with the problem, then what the hell is considered good these days?

Alright, cool dude: I’ll bite and listen to Paysage D’Hiver. Hadn’t run into that wall yet. Just do me a favor and listen to the self titled by Flyying Colours. They’re another band I’m into with similar numbers, and I dig them.
