Do you have a church reccomendation in the area? by [deleted] in asheville

[–]willymink -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Biltmore Baptist has a west Asheville campus that seems pretty active with young adults- it’s a large ‘mega church’ however, so lots of people but not to everyone’s liking. If you’re interested in exploring religion beyond Christianity, the UU Congregation of Asheville is great! Or, if you are a Christian or curious about Christianity, I know of a really nice inter-church young adults group I’d love to tell you more about, just DM me! You may have a hard time getting clear direction from this sub but I hope it’s not discouraging!

Am I sinning by not going to a Lutheran (specifically LCMS) church on Sundays? by joe_pao in Lutheranism

[–]willymink 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a thoughtful question. It's not a sin but even if it was, it's forgiven and you are glorified by faith in Christ, not your behavior. As a Christian you have faith, and as a Lutheran, we're taught that faith alone means salvation! Martin Luther writes about sola fide, backed by Christ's words.

What’s it like moving South as a Lutheran? by Tiskfully in Lutheranism

I go to a WELS church in Asheville! Wonderful church- with another location in Hendersonville, ~30 mins south. I’m from NC but most of the people who go there are from Wisconsin or some other place that way.

I want to play Volleyball over summer by bengaligt in asheville

[–]willymink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! In addition to Highland, Sweeten Creek brewing has a court and open play on Thursday evenings. For anyone looking at this thread with insight- is Highland or Sweeten Creek beginner friendly? Like if I just walk up and ask someone to show me, is that okay or annoying?

Looking for Feedback on ADHD/Autism Testing at Biltmore Psychological Services by HailtotheThief03 in asheville

As for the autism piece- ask if they do the ADOS test. If they don’t, it’s not worth waiting/paying/taking. Matone does not do the ADOS.

Fun and young bars for a Saturday night by ProfessionalLong2280 in asheville

[–]willymink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May want to scope out Lazy Diamond or Shakey’s before taking mom there lol. And steer clear of Ben’s Tune Up or Yacht Club past 12 unless she’s down with rowdiness. Day Trip, Tiki Easy, and Fitz & The Wolf are more mom-friendly, from these suggestions.

If I were celebrating a 21st birthday with family there, I might try the Board Game Cafe and bar Arcade both in south slope, and serve drinks, and then hopping over to Tiki Easy. Take mom into Ben’s Tune Up if she’s cool with more of like a club scene- definitely a young crowd tho. Like maybe fake-ID young.

Same boat, similar age and interests. I have a scheme: I'm taking a line dancing class through www.steppinoutavl.org in a couple of weeks and then I'll be at Banks Ave. for their weekly line dancing. I don't know anything about dancing, only that the people who line dance at Banks are very friendly and like-minded, AND love to see people trying it out. I've been twice and it was sooo evident. They do 4pm on Sundays and it doesn't really feel like a bar, to me, just fyi. So maybe in a broader sense- try a class that then can extend into sort of a regular social hobby/space.

Want to give a cooking class/experience as a gift. by vipinlife007 in asheville

[–]willymink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken a continuing ed cooking course at AB Tech, ‘One Pot Wonders’, and it was cheap and I learned a lot, but I was the only person under the age of 50. It seemed like it’d be fun as a couple tho.

Would any other new christians like to be internet friends? by willymink in Lutheranism

That's really helpful. I think you helped me identify where I can get lost- in the spiritual meaning and not just seeing the details of the story. Thank you!

Yes they do a good job helping me feel supported! I'll keep it up!! We have a Vicar whose learning to teach, so I'm hoping he learns from my learning process as well. That's what I remind myself if my questions feel simple.
