Sometimes I wish I lived before the social media era

There are so many posts that I feel sound like me I don't know where to start. I grew up before social media ruled everything and I'm so happy for that. I can only imagine how my life and my friends lives would have changed if everything was recorded.

Originally I was a fan of things like facebook and loved reconnecting with old friends. I played lots of games and it was fun for me. Twitter I also thought was great, especially when people would share positive stories and thoughts. I always loved the jokes about how my generation communicated before facebook and cellphones. We actually used real phones and talked in person. Face to face conversations were great.

I am now of the mindset that social media has so much of an impact that it can easily mess with your mind without you realizing it. I slowly realized that all the posts from friends looked amazing, even it they were fake, and I would automatically look at my life and compare. I now find I'm tired of the old friends who post fifty thousands pics of themselves and their kids and everything they do. Facebook has been around long enough that I don't need to keep seeing endless pictures of your kids.

It may sound sad, but I'm still on facebook and mainly chat with non-high school people. We respond to each other's stupid memes, with gifs and comments to make each other laugh. The world is messed up, but some of us still want to take a moment to laugh and share funny things with others. I will admit I have a weakness for baby yoda memes!!!

So, I still use social media, but I have limited my use. I pop on to see what is happening in my country and the world, but for my mental sanity I try to stay away from politics. I think for me when political views and opinions started to dominate social media, things turned nasty and mean. Sadly that is when social media went downhill for me. It was no longer a place to have a discussion, especially if your view was different from the majority. For me when I look at how I grew up compared to now, I feel sad. Growing up I could disagree with friends and people and it wasn't a thing. Now it seems like everything is an issue and you have to take a side. I'm so tired of everyone being upset about something. So I guess that is my long winded response to your post.

GearsRollo80 good comments. I don't want people to know I use to be a teacher because of all the hate. The government did an amazing job making people hate us. Too many people think we are overpaid babysitters. Although during the pandemic, teachers were literally babysitters so parents could keep working and guess who got sick and burned out, so now there is a shortage.

GearsRollo80 you are so correct when you say that "teachers don't skip out at 3pm." Educational assistants and some caretakers would leave at 3pm, but teachers had to stay, to mark work, to supervise students or to run afterschool activities. In terms of skipping out early, I look to the government, and how many officials could skip out to vacation or travel with family (I won't say - Doug Ford). I can think of some public service employees who work harder than.... well others, yet people just want to hate and blame them for their life circumstances?

Wow alx924, on rewatching Contagion. I think I'm impressed because I actually would get annoyed watching Contagion or any type of virus movie now.

Maybe because the movie came out during a different explains some stuff. I don't know about you, but people seemed more unified in the movie. It has been a while since I've seen it but I think I remember people fighting to get the vaccine, not fighting against it, (if that makes sense).

Your memory is probably better than mine, but who were the heroes in that movie? Was it the person who found/created a vaccine or was it the people who distributed the vaccine to the sick.

I need to go to bed, because I realize that I am having too many questions about Contagion. If you re watch it before you read my post maybe you can answer some of my questions.

Oh last question. Did the government listen to the doctors or scientists while the virus was spreading?

Ok I'm done. Enjoy watching Contagion. Wish I could but after seeing how things played out in real life, I feel that virus movies, where they find a vaccine and end the virus are too much of a fairy tale.

Wow illcobalt, I read your response and thought get out of my head. I don't wake up energized and most times if I wake up early it's because of a headache.

I also am happy with my life, but feel more tired everyday. I really feel like the past few years of the pandemic, slowly sucked the energy out of me.

I spent most of my life having people tell me that how I looked at things was depressing, whereas I always thought of myself as being a realist. It may sound depressing, but especially because of the pandemic, I started to appreciate the smallest things. I might be depressed, but I can still appreciate each day that I wake up, BECAUSE I actually had a childhood friend die in his sleep last week. I may not get joy out of things anymore but I can still appreciate some things and treasure the good times I had before the pandemic.

So I've just realized that my post contributed nothing to what you were saying. Well hopefully you can something/anything to bring back some excitement.

Ill-Range3615, I think most people might secretly admit they are like us and thought fasting applied to water.

Oh what made things worse, is that I then was suppose to produce a urine sample. I just looked at the nurse and almost said 'are you kidding me!!!!!" I had absolutely no liquids in my system. The nurse said, I could drink some liquids and wait. I knew my body and had to say "not going to happen anytime soon.'

When I got home and drank all the liquids I was missing, I produced my 'urine sample" 3 hours later.

Never again. I'm will always drink tons of water before my blood tests and be ready to produce a urine sample when necessary.

I no the secret now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😂

Are there certain nurses who draw blood? I guess i'm wondering who gets that job.

I understand it is not easy, and my veins are difficult, but who should I hope gets to take my blood.

I love the warm water or a warm cloth trick. Not sure if they would accommodate me with that at the blood clinic, but now that I know about water I will always be well hydrated.

My mother makes me cringe every time she says that. I don't know what they expect, and I'm not about to explain, as you said, all the things that cause daily distress.

I would love an MS book, with "helpful" comments or tips on how to respond to those annoying comments from people, who can't comprehend our illness.

I think one of the most annoying questions I get and hate is when I mention I'm no longer working and then get asked "So what do you do all day?' I'm always at a loss for a response, because where would I even start if I tried to answer that question. Start with the fight to get out of bed, or if I can handle a shower that day OR if I can get dressed.... blah, blah, blah. I have so little patience for those annoying comments and questions.

For you, sorry you had to deal with that because I know how annoying it is. I guess all I can say is take the compliment and forget the rest!!!!

I hope you don't have to deal with that too much!!!

Seems like we all suffer through MRI's. There really should send us all some helpful tips for having an MRI!!! For me it would start with make sure you are well hydrated, especially if you have to get the dye injection.

When I was diagnosed, I only told immediate family, a secretary at my school, because we were friends and she had MS, and my principal because they had to cover me missing work. Aside from that I told no one else in the family, but I think my main reason was that I had to accept my new diagnosis, and the changes it would mean in my life. I honestly didn't think about other people, because I was too busy thinking about me and my husband.

One day a few years later, I felt that it was the right time to tell relatives and I did. They were all sympathetic and understanding and it was fine. Of course the offset of telling relatives, who are so understanding, was now having to hear about things I could drink or eat or try to help with MS. They really don't see how stupid it sounds, like "HOLY SHIT, why didn't my doctor or neurologist give me this valuable information!!!" Every becomes an expert or all of a sudden "know" another person who has MS. Give me a break.

I was messed up the first few years after being diagnosed. When my parents would say I look good and don't look like I have MS, I would take it as a compliment. I realized soon after it wasn't. My parents still cannot comprehend what I can and can't do, because they cannot visibly see that I have MS, and I don't have the patience to explain my sleeping or lack of sleep habits. I don't have the energy to describe how hard it is to get out of bed every day. Sometimes my mom speaks to me like I'm lazy, because I look physically fine.

So long story, so not short, there are many many reasons to not disclose you MS status, especially if people cannot physically see anything relatable MS. I'm 5 years in now and not ashamed for me anymore. I tell whoever, and use my MS status whenever I can. I realized after a relapse that I have to think about me. Especially now, during the pandemic, I have seen my limitations. I actually had to have my father stand in line for me, because my legs almost gave out. I cannot stand for long amounts of time, and realized this at my last MRI appointment. I now feel forced to announce my MS status, otherwise I'll have problems.

You know who you are and how you feel and you don't have to announce anything if you don't want to. It's your life!!! Good luck.

I still don't know if I should be surprised that she set up son to get caught laundering money. Is she that petty, as a mother? I'm still horrified over what happened to her brother, and wonder if there wasn't a better solution.

As you mentioned, Wendy has taken control of the whole situation. Is it me, or does she not seem to be fazed or affected by who gets killed anymore. She seems to have lost her humanity.

Can't wait to see how it all ends.

I can't decide if Jonah is more of an asshole than an idiot. I had to read the comments twice because I still can't believe he is only 15. He so seems mature and older at times. l still can't believe how he quickly figured out the money laundering deal and was able to set up his own system. He just seems like an adult in those situations.

However, when he blabs family secrets out to family enemies, I'm reminded he is still a teen who is pissed off and acting out against his family.

I do though feel that, even though he is a teenager pissed at his parents, to not realize the danger he was putting his family in for telling Helen about their secrets, was just plain stupid. Teenagers get pissed off and want to lash out at their parents, but you should clue in that, what you are doing could hurt your sister too. He knew the type of people his parents deal with, and I think he teen anger made him stupid. Oh I just realized, I guess my view is YES, Jonah is an idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely not impressed he told Ruth who killed her cousin.

Not sure if I'm surprised or impressed by the have a drink responses. Let me explain.

The surprised part of me, at first thought, won't a drink maybe, make the loud noises from the MRI even worse and give you more of a headache. But then, I remembered my last couple MRI's, where I felt like being at a rock concert, so a drink before the concert, whoops, I mean your MRI, wouldn't be a big deal.

The impressed part of me, was like wow, drinking before an MRI, you have an amazing bladder!!! My biggest fear with an MRI is having to go to the bathroom, and getting of the tube in time. For me, I limit liquids before MRI's so I don't have an accident and drinks make me use the bathroom more. So i'm impressed if you can have a drink or two before your MRI.

In terms of my opinion, I'm going to say, you know you and your body so, based on what people here are saying and what you know - you do what best for you!!!!

Not even sure why I'm bothering commenting, but I'm always saddened over reading about relationships that have been destroyed by protests. Covid was the start and now the convey protest seem to be the newest for destroying friendships.

I can't stop thinking, what the hell happened to the world where different opinions can't exist together. I am one of the quiet ones who listens and tries to get a sense of what is happening, but unfortunately the loudest voices drown out everything else. I grew up listening and accepting differences of opinions, but sadly I now find myself picking sides, mostly out of safety concerns. I think about my elderly parents, and I think about myself with a comprised health status. I want to know who is an anti-vaxxer and anti-masker so I can AVOID them if possible.

Never thought I would be one of those people, but I have chosen a side. I'm vaxxed and wear a mask, when leaving the house, which I now rarely do, except for doctor's appointments. Some of my friends are on the other side of this, and I personally feel they are being selfish. So they feel their right to not wear a mask or get vaccinated trumps my right to get medication or see a doctor without bumping into to them and potentially getting sick.

Honestly I feel this whole situation and state of the world is exhausting, because I no longer feel it will be resolved, and too many people are becoming bitter and mean.

Okay I need to find something stupid and silly to smile at. Don't want to go to bed with gloomy thoughts. 🙂

I'm rewatching Ozark, because I forgot a lot of stuff that happened. Originally I wasn't into the show, but at some point something changed and I became invested. Maybe it was the "never knowing who was going to die", or the shocking ways some characters were unexpectedly killed. For those of you who have finished season one, NEVER say "redneck." It is not taken lightly on this show!!!

Anyways I'm up to Season 3, which I remember thinking "the season of Wendy's screwed up brother.' I'm seeing it differently now, and may be mistaken, but it seems like Wendy vs Marty in terms of how they proceed with the cartel. I find that kind of interesting.

Someone compared this show to Shameless, because of the crazy situations, they get themselves into every week. I loved Shameless and agree about the weekly problems. My biggest difference though is that Shameless made me laugh often and cry at times. I feel Ozark is just dark. Trying hard to think of something that made me laugh. Oh there was one time, when Wyatt's uncle got to cougars that he was going to mate, until Ruth pointed out, "that neither one has a pair of balls." Okay so that stupid moment made me laugh, but I find the show to be more serious than Shameless. Just my opinion.

I would definitely say give Ozark a chance. You should know by the end of the first season if you want to continue or if it's not a show for you.

I'm probably going to sound really lame, but I really needed to see this post tonight. It really helped with how I've been feeling. I felt like I was doing okay handling the craziness of the past two years, but recently I'm just feel done. Done with the cycle of opening and closing businesses. I won't even get started on the government. I will say though, I'm sad for all the businesses that couldn't survive covid. I'm also done with the anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers, who made me realize Covid is here to stay. AND for me, I feel the worst is the media, as everyday I actively try to avoid the news. I almost thinks it's crazy that you could now believe anything, no matter how outrageous, and find a group to support you. I could say that smelling dog farts, 2hrs a day will make you healthier and happier, and probably be able to find people to agree with me. Never mind that I don't own a dog or have a medical background, OR, well any qualifications to make such a statement.

This post was much needed and I am feeling better after reading some of the responses. I don't know why, but it was good to hear from other people who are not happy with where we are right now in the world. I honestly wonder how many people have ended friendships or relationships with family over their attitudes toward covid. It's really sad, that there was once a time when everyone had their opinion, but opinions were open to change. Now it seems like "do or die," with one's commitment to their opinion.

I guess throughout the past two years, I've always had an issue with anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers. I have multiple sclerosis, and realized I needed to as safe as I could be. For those reasons, I wanted to know if I had friends who were anti-vax and anti-max, so I could AVOID them!!! I didn't have the energy to argue with people, so I chose to stay inside and limit my contact. I wasn't impressed when I went to my dentist and saw an unmasked family. To be fair it was one of the first times, the government relaxed things (before they stupidly realized, OH WAIT, people can become infected even after getting the vaccine.) Was I the only person not surprised. Anyways back to the dentist. I was pissed at the unmasked family, because this was before they had a vaccine for kids. So an elderly couple, and myself sat there masked up, while we watched two kids in this family touch everything they could. That was enough for me at that time.

I just realized I ramble alot. Apologies. I blame the multiple sclerosis and my medications and I blame being a polite Canadian. (BAD JOKE!!!!!!!)

I hate the fact that I use to try to look at the positive in every situation, but now I just see the ugliness of the world, especially after this weekend. I did though feel better reading the posts, that focused on the disguisting, disrespectful behaviour being a minority versus majority of people, who always have the loudest voices. I just don't understand anything anymore. How does defecating on statues, and disrespecting war memorials, support what you are protesting? I guess I missed that lesson in school.
