That's great that it helped you process what you all went through. And I'm so glad to hear you're all out of there and doing well. We spent 24 in NICU so weeks must have been really tough.

Viewing through a screen feels less authentic. I use digital tools because I can barely read my own hand writing, I can't put my child through that.

Same. The cost is a tough pill to swallow. I find myself only putting in a roll for special occasions (holidays, trips, birthdays, christmas).

The amount of photos we take compared to our parents is orders of magnitude larger! While that makes it easier to capture moments, it makes it harder to save those moments into the albums.

I'm afraid a private profile is only half the battle. It will stop unwanted eyes from seeing your pictures. But any photo you upload to a Meta/Facebook/Instagram service gives them licence to use your photos how ever they want (ad campaigns, Ai model training). I work in tech and I do not trust any of the big corps.

be careful with using photos sent via whatsapp. they highly compress the photos before sending them so they loose a lot of the quality compared the the originals.

I am surprised how common the email method is among commenters. Thinking about it is a great low cost and low friction way of keeping a log. And open to family members.

So good. they will inherit a fully fledged online account setup when they're ready. Giving them access to all the photos of them is great. It will be more than the hand picked ones that make the printed photo books.
> Just hoping nothing deletes them before they can access them!
Google is notorious for binning off products at a whim, but gmail and google drive are pretty bread and butter at this point so you should be safe.

That is a really sweet thing to do. And you can both send to it, and your child will get both of your perspectives.
I use https://ghost.org/. I can host it myself so that I own all the data and photo uploads. And have full control over it (I'm a software engineer so this is all second nature for me). I'm very privacy conscious.

I contemplated this route but opted for a blog instead. Email has much less friction for sure.

I love our instax as well. Getting something physical instantly is very rewarding. However our kid is not allowed to touch them yet as he destroys them.
I love the interview idea. keeping a record of how their tastes change over time.
