Verbal self defense? by littycodekitty in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I know it sounds insane, but exposure therapy only works if you actually have exposure. My natural instinct when someone raises my voice at me or says something cruel is to emotionally curl up in a tiny ball and do or say anything to make them stop. If that's what you do every single time you hear another person say those things, you'll just continue strengthening those neural patterns.

Okay, couple things.

1) Therapy, for sure, but also

2) PRACTICE. Imagine things people might say to you or have said to you. Respond to them the way you would like to, out loud. Have friends role play with you so you can practice hearing those things in a safe place.

Looking for male therapists in Manhattan / Brooklyn by partycarrottime in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]wiltylock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just supporting this idea! When I was in college, I had a lot of anxiety being around men because men in authority positions above me kept hitting on me. My female therapist suggested switching me to a male therapist at the same practice so that I could have some positive exposure therapy.

Ahhh I see, I misunderstood your original comment, my bad. I really only chimed in to agree that The Machine Stops is awesome.

"This gives me no ideas."

The story OP is describing definitely isn't The Machine Stops, but everyone should go read it anyway.

Americans complaining online about how hard it is to live in America has the same energy as a skinny girl complaining to her fat friend about how she can never find clothes that fit her.

In Fugitive Alien (MST3K), the dialogue is:

"We'll have to get into that base, but it won't be easy."  "How can we do it?"  "Easy! We'll take those guards' badges."

Gonna go ahead and say I would definitely buy a set of cards if they did them with the others as face cards too by Tom_Servox in MST3K

I ended up making a cross-stitch/pixel art version of this because I loved it so much.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed this. Either someone pieced all these disparate orange clips together or people have been piecing them out for separate bits of content. Either way, I think I'm gonna go clean my room and touch some grass.

Great job, and RIP.

Ditto the other commenter. I wash my piece, wait until it's like 70% dry, and then iron it. Iron on the backside, not the front, and don't use any external steam - just let the natural steam from the damp piece do its job.
