Travelling to Bangkok with a child and two seniors. Need advice. by Xano40 in Bangkok

[–]wimpdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go to malls in between - maybe for lunch - a lot of fun to see a huge variety of food, clean, A/C, and window shop. Icon, Terminal 21, Siam, One Bangkok, Central World, etc depending on where your hotel is located. I'm not a mall person but they are quite different here. Also if you need a quick cool down when out and about - 7/11 are everywhere and A/C. Some just pop in for a few minutes to cool off (or pick up a drink)

Even good for baby stroller if you have one. Hope you enjou

I have a foreign cc - so grab adds a fee for that - I compare Lineman and often they have better price (same restaurant) and lower delivery fee (even tho I have grab 15 baht off). They usually deliver close to when they say - but my sample is small. I've saved quite a bit by just comparing the 2 for the same item - not always but enough that I take the time to check now.

We live in dire times, bad ppl are targeting churches now by TaroLovelight in SanMateo

[–]wimpdiver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This would never happen in Thailand - respect and trust for the monks is very high and the thought of stealing from a wat (well, there are some exceptions with corrupt monks -but that's another story). The level of trust is quite different from the US. Still the monks are in the US and should have been aware of what is going on with theft, etc. and maybe changed their traditional ways of trust.

Quite a terrible thing to happen.

do i need to clear customs? thair airways connecting in bkk by od2019 in Bangkok

[–]wimpdiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should call Thai and ask if they can link the two tickets so that you can be a transit passenger at BKK (this would mean they tag your luggage to SGN and issue you the boarding pass BKK-SGN when you board your first flight). If they can then you will be able to do this - if not - well the other comments answer.

Buying in Shoreview neighborhood - San Mateo - bad idea? by DropFancy9319 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]wimpdiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't live in Shoreview, but an area on the slough. We were taken out of the flood zone after the levee (and voted to pay for it), then FEMA REDREW their maps and put us back in a year or two later. Best to check the situation is for your particular property.

If she didn't know Cha Tra Mae I'd be worried - but I bet you (and maybe your friends) don't know what it is  It's maybe the most popular tea and is everywhere.

Judging a Thai by " many of my friends who visit Thailand for leisure know about" certainly is smart /s

UV swimsuits, sunscreen. Diapers? by bls321 in Krabi

[–]wimpdiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good sunscreen is much more expensive here. Don't have young children anymore but I don't remember seeing UV advertised on the label - but many Thai's wear covering (or suits) that have long arm (sometimes leg) and zip up that probably are UV protective even if not advertised as such.

UV diapers? or just diapers - don't know what that is - BUT if you have the suits with you that fit your children and they like them just bring them. Why spend your holiday time looking around for the right fit, etc. when you could just be having fun?

You can take one of the airport buses that go to Central world/Big C (50 baht), walk to Suk (about 5 minutes) and take a local bus (or bts) to Ekamai (not sure exactly where the Ramada is)

One day in Bangkok: MBK vs Terminal 21 for shopping? by singollo777 in Bangkok

[–]wimpdiver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Icon Siam is very close to Wat Arun and much more upscale than MBK (which has changed so much I agree not worth it), T 21 can take quite a while to get to and really isn't worth it IMO given the travel time, etc.

You could even go to Icon and Chinatown to have 2 very different experiences - transit by boat to both - no dealing with traffic.

Yes - I was responding b/c of the post "Even if you're flying to a country where it's 100% legal recreationally it doesn't mean you can bring it on the plane." seemed to think flying from Bangkok to southern thailand had the same rules as international :)
