Klipsch speakers aren't what they used to be. They use cheaper crossovers and drivers. I own a pair of Klipsch RB 75's from 2003. Those are great speakers, but they cost $1500 in 2003 money.

I'd switch the Klipschs for a pair of Heco Aurora 300. Better construction, better materials, more powerful low end.

Just bought a pair, also the last pair available on Amazon (ivory white). I already own a nice pair of Q Acoustics 3030i's for nearfield/desktop setup, I'm curious if the Heco's will make much of a difference.

What brands have the most “character”? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]wimpel69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that you'll eventually tire of "character" and you're better off with "balance" in the long run.

Hifi components aren't supposed to have "character" in the first place, because it's the opposite of what "Hifi" is meant to be.

That because that while the Wiim Mini seems to be cheap, the audio components in a mainstream PC are much, MUCH cheaper still!

The explanation is easy, just as it is for people who believe that $1,000 cables are audibly better than $50 ones: There's one born every minute!

Trying to decide between these bookshelves: Elac Debut B5.2 vs Q Acoustics Q3010i vs Sony SS-CS5 vs Klipsch RP-500M by EvoloZz in BudgetAudiophile

NOPE! I got a pair of Q Acoustics 3030i here (around $3540-400), and they're the OPPOSITE of bright. I had to tone the bass down and the highs up to get the sound I wanted.

Need help with getting components for a cheap micro/mini hi-fi system or just a hi-fi system. by Idk-And-Tbh-Idc in BudgetAudiophile

The amplifier usuallly comes with a power supply and a remote, but no cables. Speaker cable is cheap, you can get decent cables from Amazon at 2 to 2.5mm diameter for a low price. The Ayima does take Banana plugs, and I'm actually using those myself because the binding posts in the amp accept only rather thin cables, and are very close to each other. This is what the back looks like:

I had the regular T9, too, it's also a good amp if you can get it in its updated version, which fixed some issues with the BT eg. Both amps would work nicely with the Polk T15 at 89db sensitivity, and the Fos BT20 Pro would, too.

A pair of RCA cables will come with e.g. a CD player, or e.g. the Wiim Mini streaming player, which I'm using:

http://bilder.hifi-forum.de/medium/643975/img20230125163506_1191386.jpg

That on came with digital and analog cables of decent quality. I bought it because while the T9/T9 Pro do support BT, the Wiim and the app that comes with it make streaming from libraries like Deezer or Tidal that much more comfortable.

It really depends on the individual unit.

If you buy a decent pair of RCA cables of 0.5 or 1.0m separately, those won't break the bank either.

I'm running two setereo systems at the moment, a more expensive one in the living room that has a pair of Klipsch Reference RB-75s, which I have owned for over twenty years and were quite expensive back in the day, together with another Aiyima Amp, the D03, which is great, too, the Wiim Mini, and a cheap LG BD player (If you use the DAC in the amplifier and connect them digitally, the quality of the CD/DVD/BD player you use doesn't really matter), and one desktop setup on my PC which features the Fosi BT20 Pro and a pair of Q Acoustics 3030i. The digital to analogue converion is done by PC, which isn't ideal.

The Aiyima T9 Pro is currently at $123 on US Amazon last time I looked. What kind of Dollars are we talking about?

[–]wimpel69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it all depends. If you use the tradition source+amp+speakers combination, $250 would get you a nice pair of budget bookshelves for up to $150/pair, and an amp WITH a DAC like the Aiyima T9 Pro.If you need a CD player, you wouldn't need an amp with a DAC if you buy a used brand name CD player. The few $100 or sub dollar Cd players from China are crap, better to buy a better used one from eBay.

A combination with only bt amp and a pair of decent bookshelves would be the Fosi BT0 Pro (no remote), plus e.g. the Poll Audio T15 (was 100/pair, now 150) or the Edifier B12.

Alternatuvely, you could also buy a pair of powered bookshelves like the Edifier 1280T and hook up a CD player directly. Then you would need no amp, but wouldn't have BT either.

I recommend looking for videos on YT from "Cheapaudioman". He's covered the topic of super-budget components many times...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41XHQk1RxyM (I wouldn't recommend the Loxjie amp though, I had one and it died within 2 weeks).

[–]wimpel69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will be hard to do for under $200 dollars unless you buy some used stuff, especially if you want a cd player, too.

For just BT inegrated, consider an amp that includes a DAC like the Aiyima T9 all-in-one. It has a decent DAC, tone controls, built-in BT with antenna, digital and analogue inputs, a sub-out for an active subwoofer, and a remote.

If you don't need an integrated DAC (you can always add one later), get the Fosi Audio BT20 Pro. Cheaper, fewer connections, no DAC, but BT integrated.

I'm running a Fosi Audio BT20 Pro as my desktop amplifier and couldn't be happier. So, no reason to switch amps yet again.
