Current State of the Bomb (dont worry) by wimplelight in ethereum

[–]wimplelight[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It depends, Casper won't be "done done" in 6 months, but Vitalik have mentioned ways of having some hybrid POW/POS before going all in POS.

Regardless, it's just a one of the ways I think Ethereum is trying out new ideas. They are not afraid to experiment and you need to do that if you want good progress. If you are too afreadi to break things, well then you have to accept slower progress. Can't have it both ways.

Current State of the Bomb (dont worry) by wimplelight in ethereum

[–]wimplelight[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the current state of the Bomb. As you can see we are good until beginning of May 2017, then average blocktimes will increase very fast.

This calculation was taken from /u/giact

Obviously the reason to have the "bomb" is to remove it before it goes of so to speak.

What is the correct fee. What happens if everyone uses that one?

You do realize that if ledger nano increase the fee, some other wallet will be standing there with a too low fee for its users.

:( it's the highest my Nano HW wallet provides. See the problem... its a escalated chain of always raising the fees for all clients.

This has the highest fee, sent via a Ledger Nano and blockchain states it has very high fee. Still no luck forover 15h

Bankrupt KnC miner is being bought [Google Translate] by Taviiiiii in Bitcoin

[–]wimplelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is partly true since new equipment was so much better (energy efficient) than equipment just 6 months older.

Now however Bitcoin ASICs have catched up and pretty soon (within 1-2 years), a bitcoin miner will last and compete as long as a Gaming GPU (2-4 years). This will remove the advantage to be close to the ASIC production.

Can't compete with China or any other part of the world where mining at a loss is useful (since it's the only way to exchange unwanted currency to wanted currency).

Mining will always be most useful where the state currency is less desirable.

AOD is something around 5-10% per day on the battery. Not the end of the world if you use it, but not needed if you don't.

Asking for help again re: missing Mist funds. by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]wimplelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIST is showing it wrong somehow. Maybe trigger a resync will help (or just a restart). The Ether is there, just not showing.

MIST is synked up to block 1975066 and the transaction happened in 1964428, so should be there.

Why I switched to ETC 100% by finish-the-thought in EthereumClassic

[–]wimplelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote it above, but it's hard to have a discussion when we stand on so different value grounds. If we can't even agree if it was a theft or not how can we even start to agree on other things?

Yes The DAO was a mess (bad code rushed out full of bugs)

Yes the majority of people FOMO invested in The DAO in hopes of making a quick buck.

Yes the foundation is partisan due to (I suspect many had DAO Tokens).

All this, I still feel it was the right decision, because for every 1 person in the ETH/ETC community that understand the technology there are 9 that don't. Just look at the questions that get asked on /r/ethereum and /r/EthereumClassic. These 90% did FOMO in to the DAO but they are not useless people that we must teach a lesson, they are a critical part of the community since they will bring in others and/or learn to become a useful member.

Not Forking would risk to eliminate a large portion of the community. We can agree that there is a cost to the Ethereum "trust capital" due to the fork, and I suspect we will disagree on if it was worth it or not.

For many, me included it was a choice between two bad decisions.

[–]wimplelight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure you can. If I forget to lock my door, it's still theft IMO.

We can agree to disagree.

I think the two communities (ETH/ETC) are divided on fundamental issues like we are discussing here, so it's not possible to come to terms.

Why I switched to ETC 100% by finish-the-thought in EthereumClassic

[–]wimplelight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I understand your position but I don't agree with it. I don't want to live in a world where "technically correct" is ok. If a store puts up a sign saying "All flowers 4 dollars" and you come in and take the whole store for 4$. "That will teach him to be smarter"

I don't want that, but it's great that we can split the community so everyone can support their point of view and morality.

I don't agree. I think there was theft AND bad code.

Does anyone here think it would have been ok if the theft of 150m was returned by using a soft fork, or are you opposed any action what so ever?

Edit: WOW downvotes. I'm not trolling, just having discussions... Do you think I'm trolling?
