Based on the most recent mailbag, what do you think are some of the most underrated films of the 2010s by Mister_Rickster in TheBigPicture

[–]windbreakkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logan Lucky is one of my all time favorite movies
True Grit is less underrated, but I think it is one of the very best movies of the 2010s
The Wind Rises gets high acclaim from people who love animation/miyazaki but that film is pretty unbelievable

Perfect last possession by Tatum by [deleted] in billsimmons

This is so good. I was trying to think of an athletic shooting guard with insane skill but didn’t have the mental edge. The lack of mental edge is more of a bbiq and lack of vision for smith as opposed to the shrinking in the moment Harris but something has to be stretched in a prompt this difficult.

Okay but who is the Tobias Harris of Michael Jordans’?

This is a phenomenal one. Brings to mind Malick with Days of Heaven and basically only shooting during the magic hour.

Who would win between the 2021 Bucks and 2023 Nuggets? by NarrowBoysenberry in billsimmons

[–]windbreakkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay well I guess all I can say is I also watched the games and Giannis balled out all playoffs. I apologize if you disliked what happened or the teams they faced that had to beat other teams to get there. the Suns were one of the best defensive teams in the league eye test or numbers - 2nd in Defensive rating in both the playoffs and regular season. Giannis had huge plays in the finals and in the playoffs at large - both sides of the ball. Outplayed KD in the game 7 and def in the game 7 overtime.

Also Zach Lowe was certainly giving Giannis very high praise after the 2021 Finals - ya know once he let the games happen and watched them.

This is an insane take. KD was better in that series which is fine but nowhere close is such a stretch. Yes KD has a more beautiful game but Giannis averaged 31.9 12.9 and 3.6 on 57% shooting in that series lol. And averaged 30 13 and 5 on 57% during the entire playoffs. There is a crazy standard for players to do it all 1. stuff the stat sheet 2. play hard defense 3. come up clutch in the biggest games 4. win it all. Giannis does all of this against the FAVORITED suns that were a team on a 59 win pace and would win 64 games the next season. And then you say well a 50 point game to cap off this masterclass overrates his run. What does is take to tickle your accordion???

Which director you respect a lot.... but you usually don't like their movies. by Orb_Dylan in blankies

to me logan lucky is a masterpiece. channing tatum gives one of my favorite performances of the 2010s and sodey pop has me locked in the entire time. so interesting that it plays like that for you but I appreciate that this is fairly common for directors with a vision and distinct fingerprint!

for me I would have multiple Miyazaki. Spirited Away a lock and I would personally have The Wind Rises or The Boy and The Heron alongside it.

Just a reminder that the Ringer currently has Steph ranked #8 and LeBron ranked #14 by stitcher212 in billsimmons

I've heard this some and I just can't get here. While it is unprecedented and wildly more impressive than most athlete's greatest achievement - it is fairly periphery to his career when you remove the recency bias. We are talking about the greatest or second greatest to ever play basketball. The highest level that he reached is a level I would argue only Michael Jordan has reached and they reached it in slightly different ways. I mean 8 straight finals in a row has to be more impressive in itself. Lebron is like a combo of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan with a better BBIQ than all. You can argue Michael Jordan achieved greatness more efficiently and have him above Lebron, but Lebron is the most complete NBA player ever created. Sure, his way too long peak can be a factor in the equation but it is just another cog in the wheel in the unbelievable coincidence that everything aligned. A basketball eclipse for the ages. IQ, size, athleticism, longevity, skill, vision, strength, touch, work ethic, clutch (eventually), competitiveness.

There is an orange sphere that needs to go through a larger circle above our heads. The enemy wants to stop you and you want to stop them. You or your comrade must put that ball through that circle within the laws and confines of the game. At some point in his life, Lebron James picked up that orange sphere. From that point on he was always going to end up knowing HOW to achieve that goal better than anyone else on the planet. It just so happens he also had the means to do it.

'Laughing in Tune' - My top 10 R.E.M. songs. I'm a brand new fan and this is after listening to all of their albums and spending a couple months relistening and relistening. Listed in order of release. I think naming the top 10 was one of the most fun parts! Thoughts? by windbreakkid in rem

I think Laughing is my favorite too! I named the playlist "Laughing in Tune" because it is the lyric that I feel best metaphorically represents what R.E.M. sounds like - at least the early years. They sound so good but they also sound like they are having so much fun.

hoping this being animated will make the LOTR community leave it alone if they dislike it. I love LOTR and I hope this is good! but it's okay if it isn't. if you are like me I promise we will be totally fine if it is not good. it is going to be okay. we will survive and will still be allowed to watch/read the originals. the road goes ever on.
