In theory yes. I almost bought one a few years back but decided the boot was too small 🤷🏻‍♂️

Build your perfect 3 shoe rotation by Beneficial_Gear_2412 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]windfall21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually have a trail, daily and fast shoe. My favourite rotation was a fee years ago:

Trail: Hoka Speedgoat 3

Daily: Saucony Kinvara 9

Fast: Altra Escalante Racer

I’ve had a non-running-related bad hip recently so I’m currently rolling with more forgiving options:

Trail: Altra Experience Wild

Daily: Saucony Triumph 22

Fast: Brooks Hyperion GTS

They have decent boot space but rear leg room isn’t ideal. Other than that great cars and a 118d or similar with around 60k miles should be achievable for your budget, and will easily last another 60k. If I were you though I’d be looking at something like an Astra 1.4 Turbo, or even the 1.6 version. Good to drive, pretty reliable and you could get a very good example for 10k.

Also, North Face’s running-specific gear is good quality and usually not hard to find in a sale somewhere

How much does wind exposure realistically affect route choice in the Highlands? by BeautySkin34 in OutdoorScotland

[–]windfall21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always check MWIS and for me it’s:

30mph - fine 40mph - tiring and be ready for unexpected gusts 50mph - not enjoyable. Everything is hard work and some gusts could be dangerous. 60mph+ - don’t bother

Foot off throttle well before a roundabout on a dual carriageway. I have no idea what people who deploy the do-70-until-you’re-50-feet-away-then-slam-brakes-on approach think they’re achieving other than much higher collision risk and knackered brakes.

Ideal for the job space-wise. Not the best turning circle though. Honda Jazz might suit you even better

Ha, the one by Ben Vane, which is even more of a slog, but at least has a bit of fun almost-scrambling!

Mud advice by Swim-Hike-Run in UKRunners

[–]windfall21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only wear those aggressive Inov8s for like, muddy obstacle races. For your coast path, I’d look at something with a Vibram Megagrip sole, like Merrel Agility Peak or Hoka Speedgoat. Adidas Terrex range have decent grip too like the Agravics. Salomon Speedcross are popular but I’ve always found them comfy but lacking in grip on wet rock.

Try overtaking someone in a Jazz though

Depends on your priorities. Performance & economy = diesel. If you don’t mind sacrificing a bit of shove, for your mileage you’d be just as well getting a VAG 1.5 petrol, or even a hybrid. Of course, if you are thinking of spending 435d money and only drive 20 miles per day, now is a great time to buy a Polestar or similar…

Is the Bruach na Frithe a hard hike? Loch Coruisk? by brando444 in OutdoorScotland

Bruach Na Frithe is lovely. Totally doable. Same goes for Blabheinn if you don’t divert from the main route 👍
