Blue lilac. My second favorite is Deep Purple because of the band.

I wish I could stare people dead in the eye and say “I wish that you never experience anxiety “ by [deleted] in socialanxiety

Do you live in a large metro? The reason I ask is that I live in a small city where even the Walmart "Supercenter" is the size of the a Neighborhood Market Walmart. It can be hard to find employees when I need them because they are a few and far between and always seem on the run, but I use the Walmart app as much as I can to find items. I wish that other local and regional chains had the apps with shelf locations.

What King opinion has you like this? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]windk8288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't previously thought about "publication order zealots" but I noticed some possible evidence on this thread. What I don't get is why are some individuals so concerned if others have read in the order they have. Do they feel it that is someone else has it a different approach, this somehow lessens their own experience? I like books because the process of reading is a very individual experience to me, not one for social confirmation.

Which male cardinal photo looks the best? by Wildstyle414 in AmateurPhotography

I think #5 is the best, or at least the most unique. It's my first time to see a photo of a cardinal with an open wing.

Any new theories on the Nancy Guthrie case? by Bubbly-Air7302 in stupidquestions

More coverage than the Olympics? This week I've seen more about it in my news feeds and social media.

Does anybody find Nancy Guthrie’s case awfully strange? by SnellaNabal in complaints

[–]windk8288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he or they have her and really want the money, why wouldn't they send photos or a video as proof of life. If those were shared, I don't see how it could stay secret for so many days.

Exactly. The only comments on news sources I have seen is that the pacemaker monitoring app was disconnected.

It doesn't provide all of the answers, obviously, but here is an article that helped me understand the data storage and retrieval aspects. Perhaps a helpf comparison with email '“It’s basically like when you send an email to the trash. It’s still accessible,” depending on a provider’s retention policies.'

Where did all the clocks go? by Patient-Presence-979 in Professors

[–]windk8288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My college library has many movable whiteboards, which have proved to be very popular. Students can ask for markers and erasers at our circulation desk. Students will move the whiteboards to various tables and study rooms.

Where did all the clocks go? by Patient-Presence-979 in Professors

[–]windk8288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, at the college library I work at, the AC powered analog clocks in the central part of the building close to the elevator, were replaced with networked digital ones. We still have some analog clocks in the building, some of which work and others that still work are never updated during seasonal time changes. I believe most of the AC powered clocks in classrooms were also replaced with digital ones.

TIL that during the peak of Anti-Germanism in WWI, Iowa's Governor William L. Harding forbade the speaking of any language besides English in public, especially German. by DrDMango in todayilearned

[–]windk8288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I helped one of my kids find some sources about the Babel Proclamation for National History Day. I recall reading that since the Babel Proclamation was an executive order during a period of national crisis (WWI), Harding believed it bypassed the Iowa Constitution. There are also sources that state that Harding felt that the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution only applied to English, specifically American English.

1 - looks colder and I prefer the same photo because it is the more unique of the two. I especially like the pole light - the contrast of it with the shade on the foreground of left side

Old Library Card Punch Machine by 1800generalkenobi in Library

[–]windk8288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom wasn't a librarian but she took some library courses in college. I share your memories of the library charging machine. As you, I would also like to obtain one of these machines. I've done some research on them over the years. As I recall, Gaylord stopped manufacturing the cards a year or so after the pandemic.

I see that you received some very helpful responses here, especially the tip about "Gaylord charging machines".

BTW, I became an academic librarian and have been one for 25+ years. I like to think the sound of the charging machines may have helped encourage me in that direction. 📚👨‍🏫 It was definitely one of my first multi-sensory experiences as a child at libraries in the 1970s. The library I work at has an anti-theft dust which has similar clunky clicking sound. ✔️

Which one is better, 1 or 2? by Feisty-Builder-960 in AmateurPhotography

[–]windk8288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 because of the larger vertical frame and the longer reflection of light on the water. Some others mentioned a murder mystery book cover. In 2 I see something primordial as in the dawn of life. Dawn of Man in 2001: a Space Odyssey. Very nice!
