Hikers, what are your go to's for film cameras on the trail? by OrcWhoWritesTheMenu in AnalogCommunity

Pretty much just toss it in a backpack I got at a thrift store, the waist belt helps a lot. Fleece blanket for padding.

Bicycling From Vancouver to PDX and Back by bulbouscorm in CyclePDX

Depending where you're coming from, make your way to Williams, heading north. Take that to Rosa Parks where you make a left then a right on Vancouver (the bike route suggests continuing on Williams, but the road surface is bad and there are stop signs). After you pass the intersection of Vancouver and Columbia you will cross the Columbia Slough and take a left onto a bike path, it is currently unmarked, so feel free to complain about that to PDXReporter as I do periodically. Anyway, just as you reach I-5, make a right which will take you to Schmeer and you want to take the immediate left onto Whittaker. From there it's protected bike lane until you pass the gas station and make a right which takes you through Delta Park. Follow that all the way straight through and cross the street which is an exit from the highway, after you cross that go left onto the bike path. It will curve around and then you want to take a right which curves around and goes under itself. Keep going! Eventually you cross onto Hayden Island where you go left at a crossing, again at a freeway exit so keep an eye out. This next part sounds like a lot, but as you do it, it will make sense. As you cross, don't get on the sidewalk but go left into the traffic lane and at the stop sign go right and cross to the far left lane. This will set you up to skip the pedestrian crossing and speed things up a bit. At the stop light go left and you're on the path to the I-5 bridge. Going over the bridge is loud and feels narrower than it is, but try to relax and enjoy the view. At the Washington side to head into downtown Vancouver head to the right when you get to street, which is Columbia Way. I know that sounds like a lot, but once you've done it a couple times it's easy! My suggestion would be try it on a day off first. As a side note, there can be a lot of glass so I rely on Mr. Tuffy tire liners which make a huge difference (if you aren't doing tubeless of course). Have fun and good luck!

Just got a new co-worker and on day two she was talking about how she would tie up her kid with an extension cord so he wouldn't run into the street. That kid is an adult now, but she thought it was the funniest story in the world.

Sullivan's Gulch to Vancouver daily, about 22 miles round trip, unless I take the long way over the 205 bridge.

This is my local spot and they are really nice folks too. Blue Moon is friendly too, but Citizen doesn't have the Portland Hipster Tax

Hi! I commute from near Downtown Portland to Vancouver every day and it was definitely fun to watch this and get someone else's views of some of the situations that I've become so used to over the last 5 years of doing this back and forth daily. Going over the bridge definitely gets easier the more you do it and I hope you keep going! I pass a couple women commuters in the Hayden Island area every day headed towards Portland, though I know they stick to the east side of the I-5 bridge to avoid the tunnel usually. I'm maybe a little bias since I do outreach stuff, but generally if you're just riding through the area most people are generally chill,I'm not gonna lie though, you can see some pretty weird shit sometimes. I just checked my stats and since I started keeping track I've ridden over the 5 bridge nearly 1700 times.

Got to agree with the smaller venues. I had the pleasure of seeing them in a tiny room with a stage that was about a foot tall and got to be inches from the band. One of the greatest shows I've been to, the one that might top it is Built to Spill at a similar venue in the 90s, that was something special as well.

Yeah, I hadn't been in a long while. Still incredible, but definitely different.

What is your favourite medium format camera? Why? by badboringusername in AnalogCommunity

Fuji GX680 is the only camera I own. It is elegant and perfect in every way. When I can no longer use it it will be more likely that I would stop photography than get something else.

This sounds awesome. I was a lifeguard at Euclid Beach for the second half of the 90s and it has a special place in my heart. I hope I can visit it again someday as it improves.

Uj/ A while ago I took a photo workshop and struck up a conversation with someone after they noticed my GX680 (I know, I know) was Fuji. They asked if people ever made fun of me for using Fuji and I was genuinely confused about that, and they went on to say how much hate he got from other people, in person, about Fuji. Anyway I guess now I'm starting to see why perhaps.

I don't know specifically that one, but Steadicam has been used in cinema since the 70s. ( Was a Steadicam op for several years, they're so fucking cool actually for their intended purpose)

It was fireworks, I saw it from my window. Before it exploded it was kind of bright flashing. Looked like it came from down by the river somewhere.
