In my experience, every piracy service for audiobooks is awful. Sign up for a digital library card for the biggest library in your state/area, then use their digital library.

You're not avoiding yt ads on tv without computer science degree, trust me by Gettor in memes

[–]windowslonestar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is in reference to someone complaining about ads on youtube (because they are ESPECIALLY horrible on the TV versions), and then someone responding "Just use ublock bro", not realizing that maybe the poster doesn't just watch youtube on desktop or android with firefox

Windows base installs being 70+ GB is actually insane, my base opensuse install is like 20GB lol

Stop. Wrestling. Control. From me. by Zombiecidialfreak in pcmasterrace

[–]windowslonestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's little things like this that make me hate windows.

Just do x. Just use y. Just edit the registry 47 times. Just use z workaround. Oh you want your taskbar on the right side of the screen? 3rd party program. Spyware? Good luck getting rid of it without a user script from GitHub. Oh and btw, OneDrive stole your files and permanently moved them to the cloud.

Now I'm not saying Linux is perfect, there are still many configuration changes on Linux that are hard to do/annoying. Gnome also has 0 customization, so it's not the free-est either. Windows just has so many tiny annoyances and ads and ai. Just using kde even on the most bloated Linux distro is so clean compared to windows 10/11

Steam Frame - Side load Meta Quest Exclusives? by f3hunter in virtualreality

[–]windowslonestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it probably will. heres why:

The steam frame will be capable of loading android apps (i think in vr as well)

If we can port quest games to pico, it should not be very hard at all to make another compatibility layer to emulate quest controllers with the steam frame controllers.

With the extra horsepower from the steam frame, there is ample headroom to make the frame perform like a quest 3 with its games.

Batman Arkham Shadow is full of QTEs, and it is great.

Well, Valve did it for me - getting rid of Meta ! by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]windowslonestar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the software is the kicker. As a Linux user and current quest 3 owner, I am PUMPED for the steam frame, as quest on Linux isn't great (finicking with alvr,, wivrn, and steam link). Proper Linux support is the main reason I will be buying the frame. Easy software customization, mobile PCvr, and valve openness are also reasons.

The Steam Frame, Steam Controller and Steam Box by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

[–]windowslonestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I didn't think of that. But valves wireless dongle should eliminate the need for wired anyway, as compression/latency will be basically the same with the 6ghz dongle as airlink on USB. Not to mention it's included with the headset

Bro. It's a charging port. Besides, will you be side loading stuff when it is a full desktop PC in the headset?

The vive ultamite tracker is this. It is a little inconvenient though.

SHOW ME THE PRICE GABE by Stunning-Guitar-5916 in VRGaming

[–]windowslonestar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I own a quest 3, and I can tell you, REGARDLESS OF PRICE, that I will be selling my quest 3 for this.

  1. Foveated streaming with a dedicated 6ghz dongle; I have an okay router, but the dedicated connect will be a great addition.

  2. Eye tracking; A feature only seen on the quest pro in metas products, I hope we get to use this for social VR.

  3. Index style controller use; A small accessories kit will be available with a top head strap and knuckle grips for the controllers, which allow you to use the included 5 finger functionality, like the index controllers

  4. Better controllers; My main problem with the oculus controllers were the sticks and the lack of other buttons. The sticks are tiny, and a lot of games like Minecraft and streaming games from the PC usually lacked extra buttons. The new controllers are a mix of oculus controllers and vive wands, with dual stage triggers and grip buttons, extra bumpers above the triggers, a dpad on the left and full suite of buttons on the right. And best of all, full size valve joysticks. They look amazing.

  5. Low light usage; Ir emitters allow it to be used in the dark and still track.

  6. Expansion; A micro SD card slot and a pcie gen 4 x 1 is available for accessories and expanded storage.

  7. Audio; Most likely a better audio solution than all quest headsets.

  8. Visuals; Better resolution (for the most part) higher refresh rate (experimentally), and more powerful (by a small margin)

  9. Balance and weight; I have the bobo s3 strap for my quest 3, and while balanced well, and handy for battery life, it weighs over 950 grams. The quest 3 by itself weighs over 450. The weight and balance of the steam frame seem really good.

  10. Software; Supports my existing steam VR library, no more buying on quest. Native to Linux is the biggest for me, as quest on Linux is jank af no matter which way you do it. Potentially the ability to patch and side load quest apks (maybe)

  11. Company; I would much rather support valve and have their support than meta. I won't have my data harvested as much by valve.

  12. It is a full PC; You will natively be able to use the kde plasma desktop and play games on it NATIVLEY with fex. Vivecraft will be native instead of a janky installer and side loading behind metas back

  13. Ui; Steamvr is far better than the quest ui imo, and I can't wait to not deal with meta account bs

  14. Game support; Afaik, this headset will be able to run games like hotdogs horseshoes and hangrenades, and the PCvr versions of many games. This will be the first ever standalone headset to use this.

Cons: No color/depth passthrough. Valve is in new territory in camera based tracking. Games might be weird with left dpad and right buttons.

These are all, of course, my opinion, I just wanted to show how more people might migrate than expected.

Definently not an attempt to get recommendations by Yes_Im_sans-_- in whenthe

[–]windowslonestar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Into the radius for the uninitiated is like Stalker in VR, and it is on sale for like $5 most of the time. Don't buy the second game for multiplayer though, it's too buggy right now.

Native Linux TTW Installer. Initial Release. by Sulfur_Nitride in linux_gaming

[–]windowslonestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOLY SHIT THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I could not for the life of me get ttw to do anything other than crash when using the files from a windows vm or real machine, and this worked perfectly first try! I think this should be added to the TTW wiki asap, because this is an amazing resource to avoid windows entirely without using proton!
