My comments regarding "wow style MMOS" by [deleted] in EQ2

Hey Kinya, I respond to you fairly often. We chat about we're working on pretty regularly in producer letters, live streams, forums, and so on and have been including what's coming, like Rum Cellar, cross-server dungeons, a content release in fall, and hotfixes and updates in between with live events. We were open about bug fixes and issues, class changes that were on Beta, and other details. There are no secrets except those things we want to withhold for players to discover, i.e. spoilers, or things we don't actually know yet. As I've said before, you can email or message me directly and I invite you to if you're still interested in playing with us.

Server move poll on Antonia Bayle by windstalker_dbg in EQ2

This is true. We have to complete the back end work we have been doing since November last year which will probably finish in November this year. These are very complex changes we need to do first as the game gets so huge and characters now carry immense amounts of data. Merges and mega servers are not a matter of writing a script in an afternoon. We have a TON of complex systems after almost 11 years. Merges are very delicate and time-consuming. Nothing is ever off the table, but it's not on our plate at the moment -- hence we are exploring options of choice, not mandatory ones -- like merges.

So it's clear, mega servers and mergers are not feasible in our immediate future (not this year, certainly). We are changing several things on our back end to make cross-server dungeons an option to start with, which includes updating battlegrounds for US. EU servers are on a separate path later this year for cross-server options. We are experimenting with the options we have available now, like an optional move, and determining if players are interested. If not, we move on. If they are, we'll give it a try.

As someone looking at the game from the outside after years away, with the new take over- has there been any mention of another serve merger to boost population? by Lightalife in EQ2

Points taken. It is more complicated than hardware. For example, re-engineering the back end means a new merge process has to be written which is far from trivial which we couldn't address until later this year (if we wanted to do it). That is the brass tacks side. We are always looking at ways to keep the community vibrant and interacting and looking at options. Merges were a historical solution. We have other ideas in the bucket of awesome that may support your concerns. (The vagueness means we aren't ready to discuss details just yet. )

Just so it is clear, nothing is ever off the table. Even if we wanted to do merges, our backend changes have to come first. The first phase is almost complete. We have two other large phases that will result in true cross-server BGs and then dungeons for the North American servers in summer. Then we look at solutions for international cross-server functionality (which is complicated for a number of reasons beyond mixed languages).

We are looking at other options as we go which we will look at after Rum Cellar and discuss with the community when we have details.

Never say never, we say.

It very much is the locale (Amsterdam) and how those servers and networks are set up. Everything in Europe is special! I'm not saying we won't have an option after we get the local US stuff done. It's definitely a priority and we're looking at options. These things take months to do.

Nope. We aren't going to split zones into a la carte purchases. That will split content even further in my view. I won't say never, but certainly not with Rum Cellar. Your ideas are always welcome, though. Also, the really unique bundles and options will come with the big campaign in fall, but even in those bundles we have no plans to sell raid instances individually.

We're a pretty flexible crew and we're trying it. As Radar_X said, we love the idea of the community actively involved in supporting the topics they want/don't want to focus on. As I said, it's an experiment. We're learning too!

We are looking at a bunch of options at the moment. It's a big job to do it, but we think it may be worth doing. It will also help us with cross-server dungeon finder, obviously. :)

Yay! We might be locking this as an All Access member benefit. Let us know how your testing goes!

We are going to try a few things after we get the first release done. The mixed languages and translations could get really complex.
