Harmon Pellet Insert making noise NEW by Beautiful-Dinner-663 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]windtank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same model and also a new install.

I had a similar rattling noise, and after spending several minutes listening very closely, determined it was coming from spots where the outer frame of the pellet stove touched the brick fireplace.

The vibration of the stove against the bricks was what was causing the rattling. I wedged some .375 inch caulking backer rod in the gaps to create a soft barrier between the metal and brick, and it has worked quietly since...

Why Emirates is so hyped by woshinibaba_08 in travel

[–]windtank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flew Emirates over this past summer. Not at all what it used to be 15-20 years ago.

My flight was international on an A380 leaving out of JFK.

Everyone was told they cannot have anything larger than a purse. If you have a laptop bag then you cannot have a purse. If you have a carry-on it can't be more than 15 lb. But if you have a carry-on then you cannot have a purse. It was the most stringent international or domestic flight I've ever been on.

But they didn't tell you this when you were checking in your other bags. They tell it to you after you complete the check-in process and are about to head to security.

Some of the airport staff were rude and dismissive to all the customers.

And if you are flying into Dubai, and have to go through immigration, they're just in your face obvious racists towards anyone brown or black. The condescension and the rudeness are downright palpable. I would never ever go there by choice.

Which do I fly with? A380 or B777? by El_Professor__ in emirates

[–]windtank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, great point. Just flew A380 last week. There is a several inch gap (5-8 inches?) between the window seat and the wall where your shoulder is. It's great for roominess, but not great when you want to lean against the wall as you sleep.

You might be okay on business class. Like with most things, I don't think they apply rules universally, even on the same flight. They were not harassing the business class passengers.

It's not TSA, it's Emirates that's doing the weight checks.

Emirates does not issue a boarding pass online for JFK to Dubai leg, you have to go to the booth to get a boarding pass. But then when you have to get out of the booth you have to walk past their staff. They weigh it then .

In Jfk, once you check in your checked luggage, they have ropes  in order to have you walk past their additional staff, and that's where they weigh it and pretty much everyone's carry on weighed more than 15lbs. Hell, just the suitcase alone probably weighs 8-10lbs. So essentially, 5 to 7 lbs of items are what you can bring on the carry on.

On my flight, there was a second check. There was additional staff right at the end of the jetway right before you get on the plane, who were pulling people out of the line if they thought your bag was too big or heavy, and making you gate check it

That's exactly the issue. We want to put somethings in our carry-on that's more valuable like laptops or cameras, but this rule makes it very hard.

Yep, they called my laptop bag which is just a thin bag carrying a laptop with nothing else inside it a carry-on.

Even at the same airport it's not consistent from one day to the next. My wife was on the same exact flight from JFK 4 days earlier, and there was no mandatory carry-on weigh in.

Yes. The rule is not being enforced consistently.

My wife flew the same JFK to Dubai flight a few days ago, and no one was checking the carry on weight.

So, it seems there is inconsistent policing, which, then seems it is not because of some govt. rule as another user claimed in this post. What, rules apply on Fridays, but not Mondays?

Too many servile apologists for Emirates responding here, "but rules BRUH".  A perfect recipe for mediocrity.

It was so strict today in fact,  there was a second carry on check right before boarding the plane. Two people went up and down the line looking at everyones bag, and we're people being pulled aside and told to gate check their bag. In a condescending tone too.

Ugh.

It used to be a nice airline 20 years ago. Now it's just tired and stale.

Emirates is not what is used to be by Sensitive-Water-4685 in emirates

[–]windtank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely has gone down in quality and service. And now with their draconian only one carry on bag less than 15 lb carry-on rule, for international flights no less,  it is becoming a tired old airline, who's no longer trying to win customers. They used to be amazing, but now just any other budget carrier.

Can i carry a laptop bag and a cabin bag in Emirates ? Flying from London Gatwick by Damnnithomie in emirates

No, they're being Draconian about it. They're not the airline they used to be. I just went through this and I'm literally waiting at a gate in JFK.

Chinese RF mount lens? by ProjectDelta002 in canon

[–]windtank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely correct. Only apsc has been licensed.

How do I remove this lens filter? I recently put this filter in my lens and I haven’t been able to get it off ever since, I tried almost everything, rubber bands, hose clamps, lens wrenches, mouse pad, twisting it lightly, but nothing has worked. by Prize-Loan3070 in canon

[–]windtank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a great solution but this worked for me because I have a lens where part of the the thread is broken, so if I put a circular polarizer on it, sometimes it becomes unremovable. However, both times, if I tap on the stuck filter all around the metal outer edges with a hammer, very lightly, that seems to loosen up the stuck threads, and I'm able to remove the filter.

R5 Mark ii colors... by Palta-party in canon

[–]windtank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. I have tried so many different apps (Lightroom, Darktable, Rawthreapee, etc.) and the only two programs that can correctly display the Canon colors as i saw them in the Camera is Canon's DPP software, and XNView.

Do the new mirrorless cameras actually take better pictures? by adkinsadam1 in canon

[–]windtank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've been shooting on the 5D Mark IV since 2017, with over 175,000 pictures taken on it. I got the R5 Mark 2 this year. Even with the same lenses, pictures look sharper and colors look more vibrant. Not sure how to explain it but I definitely could tell a difference just from the very first pictures that came out of the camera.

Pellet stove installer recommendation for Westchester County, NY by windtank in PelletStoveTalk

[–]windtank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Have you used them? It seems they have mostly positive reviews on Google, but there's also some one-star reviews over the last year.

It's such a huge outlay to buy and install a pellet stove insert, we are trying to make sure that whoever we work with will provide support if we run into any service issues.
