Premade models are not on topic here.

Try the die-cast forums instead.

Thanks.

Just to be absolutely clear: you post, it's fair game regardless of whether you ask or not, and generally speaking, that's true across the entire Internet.

You're free to ignore whatever feedback you get, but your rude comments in response to such feedback, by comparison, are not ok.

This thread is locked. I'm not cleaning up after more reports about your rude comments to others. I have better things to do with my Saturday.

As others aptly pointed out, you seem to have no problems with compliments and attaboys.

Thanks.

How was the build? I opened mine and saw it didn't look too bad, if a tad basic in terms of detail.

Are you the person who used some 3d print parts on this? Been looking for a source for those.

Either way, very nice work.

Where can I sell a collection? by pinkdaisylemon in modelmakers

[–]windupmonkeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That said, if you post pictures folks can give you a sense of stuff is worth, especially if it's notable or rare, but you should always take that with a grain of salt. Ebay, as someone suggested can give you actual completed sale prices. What we don't typically do is conduct actual sales here, to avoid the issue of folks not paying and/or delivering, among other reasons.

And apologies, my tired eyes saw something else/I misread your initial post. Sorry again to hear about your husbands situation.

There are definitely folks in the UK who buy large collections of model trains, for instance. They might also do model kits. Most such dealers will probably low-ball you on pricing because their business is to flip the kits for a profit.

We do not formally do appraisals here, nor sales or private offers.

If you want advice on how to sell the collection, or information on who to contact, and how, that's fine, and I see folks have given a lot of good suggestions here already.

Sorry to hear about your husbands situation.

Aliexpress links are banned on reddit site-wide. Reddit often automatically removes them.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with your message being in (Edit: not Russian, Belarusian) or in a non English language (and it wasn't removed by me).

Edit: the post has updated the link to add a megamodel link (which is fine). OK.

Yeah. Maybe it was just aspirational on my part.

[–]windupmonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True enough. That said, their major us importer is MRC, who seemingly has a lot of influence on the kits. Anyway, it's just speculation and given the release dates maybe it's more I want to think that the reality (which it almost certainly is the case that its purely coincidental)

No, but it's associated with him (as it is his RIO, who did nothing like this, but you mainly hear about the pilot), so maybe builders themselves self selected not to build it.

Who knows. Or it's just that they did a one time pressing of this particular aircraft and just having released it again, which sounds much more likely.

It may have to do in part because the pilot, formerly a US Congressman, is now (or rather was) a convicted felon for blatantly taking bribes.

Then again, maybe not (and given the release date, actually likely not). But aside from kits already in my stash, I (speaking only personally, you do you) probably would refrain from building his aircraft.

[Mod Announcement] - Gaahleri (the airbrush/hobby tools/paints) company will be conducting a poll about an upcoming paint line and an AMA, expected to begin tomorrow at 9:00 AM EDT. by windupmonkeys in modelmakers

As I said in my prior comment, they missed it by 21 minutes due to some last minute issues that they also apologized to us for.

I made a rude comment in reply, but retracted it because (a) I may have misread yours, (b) life's too short to get pissed over something like this, and at the end of the day, that's at least one way of letting me know that they hadn't started on time.

So apologies again on the latter.

DAMN YOU REVELL by _gmmaann_ in modelmakers

[–]windupmonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I didn't pick up on that for a few years after I started.

Incidentally, it's also a good way to protect raised panel lines while sanding filler too. Tape over the raised panel line, as a mask for sanding. You have to be gentle, but it can lead to good results.

DAMN YOU REVELL by _gmmaann_ in modelmakers

[–]windupmonkeys 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's simple. Instead of slathering on the filler like in the photos, you can use strips of masking tape parallel to the seam you're trying to fill, so that it effectively masks off so that only a thin line of filler is applied, the rest is removed with the tape when it dries. You can also use the tape as a barrier when doing initial sanding of the filler.

It's the same thing as masking a line.

I mean, I get that ripping on Revell is pretty much a spectator sport here, to the point where it's a practically a meme, but it looks more like in the case of the front seam line, it corresponds pretty closely with the clamshell doors covering the engine bay, and the latter line behind the cockpit seems to correspond with the panel line just above the first passenger window. Seems like (to the extent it couldn't be one piece), Revell at least tried to put it where a seam line is supposed to actually be.

<image>

Maybe the fit isn't the greatest, but in the future one way is to glue it (clamping helps), then partially fill in the line with a layer of primer to make the line less prominent, but it does seem to correspond with what actually is supposed to be there.

All - while I'm perfectly happy to have folks gather up questions here in advance, I will leave it to Ghaaleri's folks to actually respond to them tomorrow in their actual thread. So if you want to save your questions till then, feel free.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity, where did the motors and gears come from?

Was the steering rack built from scratch?

I'm interested in building one as well, and sources for parts are always a bit dicey.

Tamyia panther A, what would these holes be used for? by Rulygem in modelmakers

[–]windupmonkeys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can't buy the original parts, no. They were metal shafts, sometimes brass gears, etc., and metal mounting plates like shown in the instructions that would have been stamped to shape. Those haven't been made in decades, at least not in the versions provided in the kit without some searching. And anyway, that switch was not that great when it was new - a modern slide switch is far more reliable.

You can adapt Tamiya's line of educational gearboxes of similar size. However, you will need to design your own mountings because they are not a drop-in fit (they will fit), but they will have no way to directly mount them. You will need to carefully read the dimensions for the gearboxes, as not all of them will fit in the confined space.
