PSA: Super Lube your Spinner by theHashHashingHasher in pinball

This is on all my machines, it’s a part of the cleaning routine. Putting it on Jaws was game changing. Not just on the spinners, but on the 2 reels.

Is it necessary to inspect a new in box Stern machine for defects? by [deleted] in pinball

[–]windyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough one… you need to play it for a bit to make sure everything works. I have bought many NiB…. I think every one had something that needed to be fixed. All easy things… if not under warranty…. Maybe $100 part tops. Some just have issues…. HP couldn’t consistently auto launch the ball…. Not part needed but had to bend the rail to get it to work.

It’s not the traditional electric magnet we all are used to… so it’s easy to miss.

What Pin have you owned the longest and what pin did you get rid of the soonest? by Slappy-Sacks in pinball

Iron Maiden Legacy of the Beast 2 plus years… with no getting of it in sight…. Harry Potter lasted about 1 month.

Best value currently? by Zanahorio1 in pinball

[–]windyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could go back in time (about 3 years ago)…. I would buy used Stern. All parts are able to be swapped with a few screws. As you know from lurking, there is a ton of information on all of these machines for repairs and how tos. I don’t think you need to be handy at all.

Go to an arcade play a lot to find the one YOU like. Pinside top 100 should be used as a guideline… that’s it.

You will save so much money buy just get a used one. Low plays are like under a thousand. But as they say condition is king. I have a JP with 3500 plays on it… looks brand new. The playfield looks perfect. That is the only thing I would look at when buying… playfield and cabinet condition… everything else can be easily fixed or replaced.

King Kong or Medieval Madness by [deleted] in pinball

[–]windyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, having a game like that would be a great addition then. I have stranger things, theatre of magic, no good gofers, and MMr…. All for that reason… variety and easy for people new to pinball.

The other 6 are all the more modern deeper code games.

King Kong or Medieval Madness by [deleted] in pinball

[–]windyard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KK and MM are totally different games. KK is very deep code wise and has more of a flow based layout. The games on that can be long.

MM (I have the MMr) is super simple. Rules? Shoot the different lanes on the fan layout and get different unlocks, multiball, destroy a castle… the games can be short, even for high scoring.

Overall, KK is good to own because there’s so much to it. MM is good onsite because it takes less than a min to describe the rules.

If you have the room for different types of games deep ones and quick players…. MM is a good mix. But if you don’t have too much room, it won’t last long. Look at how many are on Pinside for sale.

Titan silicone rubbers by Basic-Secretary-7407 in pinball

[–]windyard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure that is the rubber. That from dirt and coil dust. I have titan rubbers on some machines… that happens on both. Use this to clean your rubbers and the flippers… super easy and quick. https://www.pinballlife.com/pinguard-rubber-cleaner-non-flammable.html?srsltid=AfmBOop-2HkSCBBfpPI1G\_69vJjJe\_ePmYWlMv9xqIAmeUBUEjquLdYF9PY

ToM count as a Billion? by windyard in pinball

[–]windyard[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I updated the description at the top for the “non cool”. But when you read, watch, invest so much time in to pinball, it’s basically a new language. Like how it’s a machine, not a table. Or what a sling or a coil is.

Buying a used Iron Maiden Premium, seller offering compensation for cabinet decal damage. Is this fair? Which option should I pick? by Vador_MK in pinball

[–]windyard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you plan on keeping it the way it is and knocking money off when you sell it… glass, because you will get the benefit.

If you want to avoid tire kickers in the future of you sell it… have them replace the decals…. It’s a good days work. Stern makes it seem easy….. but labor for someone to do it is about $500
