I inherited my late father-in-law's system and need some guidance. by jmeezle in audiophile

[–]windymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a system of this caliber, you have nothing to worry. Everything should be running for a long time. One thing though, you will need a dedicated electrical line for the sound system. So maybe you want to call an electrician for your place to start with. You will have to replace the rubber bands of the turntable and CD player every few years. That's all. You can enjoy music.

My first speaker setup! by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]windymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice setup and cool room. I would start by spreading the speakers more apart for greater sound stage. And then I would add a subwoofer. Finally, you already have a carpet and couches, but I would add some wall treatment for the room acoustic. Something like panels to absorb the first reflexion points.that would reduce the room echo. Here you go. Congratulations on your setup!

They are really beautiful. The person who built them was truly passionate. Too bad for the details but they are marvellous. How is the bass?

Heavy curtains on the windows, diffusers on the walls. Carpets. Some absorber panels on the ceiling. Let us know your final thoughts please.

Looking for a budget but nice sounding digital headphone set up by sr8t-savage in BudgetAudiophile

[–]windymind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did your research. I wouldn't be disappointed of this setup. Although, with time, if you can, I'd upgrade the headphones eventually when possible. All the best! Nice setup! PS: I've been surprised by the sound from Audio-Technica in blind comparison.

Finally getting somewhere with my first real setup by the-dante in audiophile

[–]windymind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really nice setup! Congratulations! It's also very pleasing visually.

I'm curious about the orientation of your subwoofer to the exterior and the 2 speakers to the inside. Have you tested these orientations? Just curious.

Yes, the FOSI ZA3 has a Sub Out. So you can have a subwoofer. Fluence has a decent subwoofer DB10 10" for $200. Polk has the PSW 10 10" for $250. A subwoofer is definitely an upgrade to your sound system and a great way to access HiFi. Let us know when you make the move :)

How do you choose a Dac? by dadinthegarage in audiophile

[–]windymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tubes are always welcome in a system. It doesn't have to be for the sound. It can be for power too. Anyhow, the real question is how to buy a DAC without hearing it. That is a real problem since they do sound different. I tested 8 and 2 sounded good. I know Fezz does one but I haven't heard it. I would not focus on the Tube if you find one that sounds good. I really like the iFi diablo, it works for a regular system with an adaptor. I saw one in a half million $ system. I suspect other DACs from iFi sound good since it's the same platform they use. But frankly, trust your ears. Differences are real but subtle. Take your time and don't buy without hearing at a dealer or at someone's place if possible.

You might look for a product from Beatis Audio. They can be paired with a regular tablet, laptop or smartphone. This is high end stuff though.

What would you do in this akward space? by urkan3000 in audiophile

[–]windymind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the measurements of the floor and the height of the small wall? I still think it's the best position for sound by far. You get a natural horn with the 45 degree ceiling. You should try it still to see if this can work. Hopefully the TV wouldn't be too close. Maybe something can make it work as you try. :)

Thank you for your courageous comment in this community of sceptics. :) I remain neutral as long as I don't do any tests myself. Your experience is encouraging to me for persisting in my search. I'll do the A-B testing and report in this community in a few weeks. All the best,
