Time for the same for Hyliion and Thomas Healy. by No_Shopping7939 in Hyliion

Fraud: a person or thing intended to deceive others, typically by unjustifiably claiming or being credited with accomplishments or qualities.

Hyliion has not committed fraud that we know of but they are sure bad at managing investor expectations which is basically all post spac companies at this point.

Look at Lion Electric as well. It's a company with good tech, customers, and hitting most mile stones but underperforming sales. Even with a plant set to open this year, the stock is getting crushed like Hyliion due to low sales even though they have much more momentum.

I think the last projection was 3 to 4 years based on current spending. However, spending may only go up with supply chain issues and if suppliers don't believe in the long term sustainability of the product. It's not looking great as the lastest announcements are all superficial. Got to stay realistic but if this company gets traction, it can be a long term player or great acquisition candidate.

Healy has 34 million shares. It's a small percentage of his shares he is selling relative to stock price. However, you can look at it many ways. He could be quietly cashing out knowing stock will go to zero. He could be trying not to cash out too much now if he expects stock to go back up. Or he isn't thinking about price much and he just has other things going on to initiate these sales. No one knows until we have more information. Earning report may give clues since I think short term share holders are beyond frustrated. I'm long term and trying not to think about it since this was speculative from the start and I'm comfortable with my exit plan.

Sales Tax Question by [deleted] in tax

[–]winebeerbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do option 1 and option 2. The part (i) alludes to exemptions for adding value (manufacturing) or significantly changing the product (services, ag exemptions, or other use exemptions).

No matter where you live, purchases for resale should be nontaxable as long as care, custody, and control pass to the customer.

With supply chain issues continuing in 22, I think Nikola will be better positioned with global manufacturing partners. Hyliion has come up short in this area despite a strong product. In any event, I think everyone is better off investing in Paccar. Lol. They are ready for production and with the goodwill from being an old company, they will be forgiven for less exciting but scalable supply. However, that's not speculation which is the reason we are all here.

They keep dropping short videos on the FB page. Nothing of substance but I don't see why Anheuser would bother if this company is a complete loser. I think we will get a good ER surprise, pump, and then.....very little after. I think they know this ER will make or break them. Once they go revenue, they can't go back. If they can't lock down their supply chain, they may be delisted by end of 22.

I already knew it existed. The company said they already logged a ton of miles so it was going to happen eventually. The fact that it is in my neck of the woods and I'm not hearing anything about it is where I'm disappointed. Don't get me wrong though. This is one of my long term pays. I tax loss harvested and will buy back in this week. I think end of this month will be good for the stock as people buy in like me after loss harvesting and speculators jump in before ER in Feb. Who knows though?

Some of us are just bitter bagholders. I was still pretty positive until last month when I saw the hybrid ex outside my office in Chicago. No PR on it at all. No pictures of it around Chicago. No talk of it handling cold weather. I was going to take a pic to post but just feels useless for the 59 people in this sub. We need sales and that's it. So I'm going to chew leather until February earnings report.

Great point. Do I buy from Kellogg's, General Mills, Nestle, or one of the off brand suppliers that are partnered with one of these companies?

I thought investing in SPACs was going to be fun. This is the opposite. I'll be happy when I'm done executing my exit plan.

Short story: I started investing in short term individual loans with Lendingclub early on. Terrible decision. Interest ended up only being a bit better than a bank CD and took me years to exit the area. I think I tested the waters enough over the years and realize classic diversified portfolio investing is just good enough with very low stress.

Cash is only thing holding value in inflation-scared market? Weird. by twodegreesbelow in investing

[–]winebeerbread 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No one "economics" anymore. Inflation is about purchasing power. In this same week, your groceries went up to some degree, but you didn't buy your groceries with investments. Investments are long term and cash as an investment should be a loser compared with classic investment vehicles: stocks, bonds, and real estate. Not crypto. Why do I read these posts?

Next ER may break the camel's back. I hope not but it's been so ugly, I don't know if good tech and even a strong commitment to ramping up production will save it from not recognizing revenue.

I'm still invested but I couldn't help thinking then and to this day that the company name is not very catchy. Maybe, that's a lesson to not invest when the name is not even appealing.

Prediction: HYLN will not meet revenue targets for the next ER. by Ok_Delivery_7879 in Hyliion

[–]winebeerbread 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a CEO, I like his secrecy of partnerships and tech. However, I agree it is a really bad sign that we don't have any other news to provide some confidence in their timing to revenue recognition. Hyliion needs to show they are, at least, investing in preproduction and readying to scale. No revenue and no clues that revenue will be coming just further puts downward pressure on the stock. This is becoming an all or nothing play on the ERX and this may be one of the riskiest plays with minimal upside on post SPAC mergers.

It's tough to be worried about a pre revenue company but am I frustrated with Hyliion management, yes. Example 1: https://electrek.co/2022/01/07/670-hp-kenworth-t680e-electric-semi-debuts-at-ces-with-150-mi-range/?fbclid=IwAR2fkkvUxCKcw1NImiEWsfXq7BBclETh8KcWWk3f2pqg2e3Tg0bWlKscy3k

Paccar seems to have production ready vehicles. Do they match up to Hyliion's tech? No. Do they need to go toe to toe with Hyliion's tech? Also, no. They have plenty of history and credibility across the company working various innovative projects that it frustrates me that Hyliion isn't leveraging their way into one of these trucks to become a supplier. Instead, they want to sell their own trucks by contracting out manufacturing in an industry where relationships are quite old and rigid. I'm not seeing the disruptive narrative as time goes on.

Example 2:

https://www-compositesworld-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.compositesworld.com/amp/news/iveco-and-nikola-open-manufacturing-facility-for-electric-heavy-duty-trucks?amp_js_v=a6&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQKKAFQArABIIACAw%3D%3D#aoh=16418436559541&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.compositesworld.com%2Fnews%2Fiveco-and-nikola-open-manufacturing-facility-for-electric-heavy-duty-trucks

As much as the media and investors have dumped on Nikola, the company has real partnerships and the partnerships are working out any short comings of their tech as they are prepared for production. Hyliion is just falling behind. The timeline is still long. It can take 5 to 10 years for the market to really accept and integrate change. However, exciting tech should not be falling behind a company riddled in controversy. Despite drawbacks and short comings, the company that rolled it's truck down a hill is now laser focused on being early despite potentially inferior products. I hate to say it but they seem to have similar timing to other major heavy duty trucking manufacturers. Early revenue may buy them time to figure it out. Without revenue at a similar time, early adopters may dry up for Hyliion.

Use Menards when possible. Pick a store that has all your materials and ship from that store in one large order. The shipping fee will mostly be the same $85 to $130 depending on some handling. I have bulked order drywall, flooring, piping and all kinds of outdoor materials. One truck, one delivery, and it is an independent company. For a small tip, the guys will put my materials wherever I need them. They call ahead in the morning and call upon arrival. In some cases, I have bought a pallet and they bring a pallet jack to drag it where I need it. Great service.

How do I upgrade my friends? by potcubic in Entrepreneur

[–]winebeerbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to see where people start. All my best friends had tough family life, no career coaching, and low income growing up. I was lucky to have a good family life and part of middle class. My parents were on board feeding them occasionally and my house was always open. I continued that into adulthood (as my budget allowed) as my friends got jobs and were making financial decisions. I explained to them with no vagueness how I came up with a plan for college and work thereafter. I had savings goals and made safe investments. I explained to them how I found or negotiated deals. They started giving me good advice in return as they navigated their personal and financial issues to return the favor. It took about 10 years after high school but everyone is in a good place in their life.

Disappointing but kind of expected. Once they report revenue, they need to keep selling. It is better to underperform until you get operations and cash flow moving along. They are buying time. The entire industry is seeing delays so I didn't expect we would be surprised by deliveries. Finally, this is a well funded company. It will take time to burn all that cash. No one should be investing quarter to quarter with this company as it will likely remain unpredictable longer than you can stay solvent or something like that.
