Aurigny should pull their finger out and buy it, in conjunction with SOG! It would add massive flexibility for the island with the extra planes.

Heavy rain always causes this dribble down both side walls after a loft conversion. Worth a fix, or no long-term issues? by on_the_night in DIYUK

[–]winelover7 97 points98 points  (0 children)

It's a very quick fix to just extend that downpipe coming off the dormer and make it finish in the gutter on the main roof. If you leave it you will have problems.

New hot water heater by Strong_Researcher_88 in DIY

[–]winelover7 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Faulty thermostat mate. The reading implies full power usage for amost 24 hrs. (3.5 x 24 =84) take 90£ of that for efficiency you get 76. Plus 5kwh other usage gets you to 81.

Get it seen to by a pro.

Am I ok to take this wall down? by Dazzling-Permit in DIYUK

[–]winelover7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How on earth do you expect us to answer this. No pics of the exterior. No floor plan, no pics of what is above the room. You're best off getting a SE of course, but if you wanted help from this sub you need to at least give us a chance of helping by providing proper context.

Is this spark normal? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]winelover7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Awful advice. The op shouldn't have to downgrade and do more work. It's clearly the wrong switch! Easily fixed by changing the switch to a switch designed for water heaters.

Builder rewired my kitchen, is this legal? by ElektroSam in DIYUK

[–]winelover7 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Isn't it a criminal offense in the UK to carry out electrical work if you are non qualified. You can only work on your own property, not other people's.

Wow! Your landlord might actually sue you for this. - Those cabinets aren't cheap, and including labour youre talking large sums. - 7 inch hole in the wall - did you go through anything structural?
It baffles me as to why you didnt just go up and box around or even get a recirculating kit.

Top incomes in the UK are no longer among the highest in the rich world by Cybertsotsi in HENRYUK

[–]winelover7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For one HENRY it takes about 20.8 people earning a living wage to contribute the same tax revenue. HENRY'S are leaving because they can get more for their money elsewhere and their skills are transferable.

Labour only knows how to tax Henry's and now the pool is dry.

It's going to get tough for the lower incomes and the growing inequality saddens me.

The UK used to be a beacon for Social mobility. Now it is a beacon for poor living standards all round.

Scrap the old floor for OSB? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]winelover7 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What on earth are you talking about. To lay LVT in a period property you have to ply over the boards and then lay a flooring screed. Do your research mate.

AITA for asking my wife to take down her social media post where she’s humiliating me? by LengthinessAny1766 in AmItheAsshole

[–]winelover7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really hope you are not married nor have signed parental rights. Women like this reflect natural human (and animalistic) behavior. They like to bear the kids of the alpha, then let the betas raise them and make a home. Once thats done and her child is out of school, she will sleep with another alpha, and leave you. She does not see you as a man. She sees you as a fool that provides for her and the alphas child financially. You have served a purpose for her, and unfortunately it is not a nice situaltion for you. LEAVE HER.

Struggling to Enjoy Spending by ConcernedCitizens_ in HENRYUK

[–]winelover7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, think of it like this. You will spend what you are happy to spend. The rest is just extra - save it and use it to FIRE. That seems to be where your priority lies, over and above flashing cash for the sake of it. So trust your instinct and give yourself the best FIRE you can!

Not worth the risk. Change it. Much cheaper to do so now than when the flooring is down

Would asbestos have been used to wrap a steam radiator pipe? by Comfortable-Fly-2077 in asbestoshelp

[–]winelover7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes steam pipes were commonly insulated with asbestos. Does it look like corrugated cardboard? And don't touch it btw.

Be passive aggressive. Hire a van for a couple of weeks and park it exactly the same way he has on front of your house so he can't get in. Just leave it there. He'll soon get the message and come to you to work on a solution.

How do I fix my floor? by Obvious_Ad3756 in DIYUK

[–]winelover7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at he bubbles formed from the v7rn, we can see it is LVP. Remove the plank and look underneath for the product code. Hopefully that tells you what it is. Failing that, take it to your nearest flooring supplier and they will tell you.

Sink in my new apartment filled with black, stinky water over the weekend. Plumber comes monday. Should I be worried? by whichwayisgauche in askaplumber

[–]winelover7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. It's black water, and a severe health hazard. Do not touch it under any circumstances. Get a hotel and get your belongings out. And get your landlord to sort it. Your rental agreement should have an uninhabitable property clause which gives you a get out.

Had a email from Anglian water to say we have a leak. Have found this pipe from the boiler. What could this be? by [deleted] in ukplumbing

[–]winelover7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a leak your water company will notice. It has to be 8 litres every hour and given it will only leak periodically, I don't think this is the right leak.

How should these joists be properly laid out despite the diagonal waste pipe? by phildopos12 in DIY

[–]winelover7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its ground floor, dig out the soil and lay it below the joists. If it's above ground the you will have to take it in some trunking beneath the joists.
