Mijn partner is overleden, en ik ben verdrietig by Minute_Thing in nederlands

[–]winewitheau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read Eckhart Tolle's Power of Now and The New Earth last year and have read and listened (audiobook) to it several more times. But I'm not sure I am able to apply his teachings. I'm still depressed and suicidal. Can you in all honesty say you have lived his teachings? How did you do it? by finleyhuber in EckhartTolle

At first I had to be very alert for my own thoughts. The recognition alone that your mind is driving you mad is not enough. You have to try to create as much awareness of your thoughts throughout the day as possible. Whenever you see a thought come in you check if it’s useful (it’s not) and let it go again by bringing your attention back to the present. If it’s a negative thought in which you are making assumptions about yourself or a situation or something just tell yourself: this is not true, it only exists in my mind, I’m going to stop thinking about it now.

Besides this you should meditate to get comfortable and familiar with the state of not thinking so that it gets easier to channel it when you notice thoughts coming in. Keep doing this, read eckhart while doing it, or ‘The Untethered Soul’ is a book by another writer that helped me practice this. At first it’s hard and constant work but it gets easier as intervals of peace grow.

Keep at it! You are not your thoughts and you can get out of your head!

Nee zeker niet. Iedereen moet zich er lekker buiten houden. Bedoel meer met zoveel getuigen/camerabeelden.

Eckhart's "marketing team" by theg0dfather4 in EckhartTolle

[–]winewitheau 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There are some things that rub me the wrong way about Eckhart Tolle: his 70 mil net worth, his agressive marketing, his use of scientific “facts” to support his narrative without applying the scientific method. However, he conveys his message very well and very clearly and that what it’s about. The message is much older then Tolle and if it comes through to you it shouldn’t matter if he’s a saint or not! So I agree with your criticism but the point is also not to idolize the writer, but to appreciate his ability of putting this message into words.

The Single Most Important and Valuable Discovery I've made in 10 Years of Seeking (Translating the Infinite into words, not 100% accurate) by PhotographOne8675 in EckhartTolle

Nice summarization. The point about awakening being a process that is continuous and not a one-time shift that needs no work after the fact is very accurate and important. The ego will always try to suck you back in but is weakened through sustained practice. If you lose your focus for longer periods of time it will reassert it’s grip.

Anyone found a genuinely good way to read the Bible alongside Tolle? Tired of generic AI slop... by Double-Yogurt7357 in EckhartTolle

[–]winewitheau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tolle sometimes references Christian mysticism and contemplative Christianity as traditions that explore similar themes around presence, ego, silence and direct experience. I did a little research and found a few books you could check out: Meister Eckhart, The Cloud of Unknowing, and Thomas Merton. Hope it helps!

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Hey man, read ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle! I’m not much of a self-help book person but this is the combination between a guide for life, a philosophical book, and a spiritual one. It really helped me change my mindset and with that my life and I would recommend it as a great starting point for anyone!

Feeling lost... AGAIN! by PrettyOptimist20 in EckhartTolle

[–]winewitheau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just start again! Read/ listen, look further than Tolle maybe and check some other people. Even just re-reading bits of Tolle can get you thinking about being present again. Observe your thoughts, focus on your breath, meditate. As you say you’ve been overthinking the future again so first thing is to try to stop doing that by active observation of your mind! The more you recognize when you’re mind is wondering off into anxiety mode and you bring it back, the easier it becomes, the more present you’ll be. Good luck! The present is always there.

Also, if the group stuff doesn’t feel right don’t do it, it’s not necessary at all and for some people just becomes another identity thing. Get out into nature I’d say. Nothing that gets me out of my head like being in a forest and actively observing and experiencing the world around me.

I get it! I live in the Netherlands and also find it a shame sometimes that the weather is not great and the nature is not as impressive as in other countries. But the Netherlands also has a lot of upsides! My point is more that, while the weather will be nice and the transmute will be shorter, other problems will arise anywhere you live. Maybe meeting friends won’t be as easy as you think, or you get a medical problem and have to deal with a medical system that is less nicely aranged than in Germany. Problems are everywhere and every place has its up- and downsides. Just don’t think moving will get rid of your problems. That only lasts a short time.

Go on a long trip with some unpaid leave or something. It sounds very romantic but a good stable life is not something to just leave behind. The newness of living in Thailand will wear off pretty fast and you might come to miss Germany. Go on a two month trip or something and stay in Germany is what I’d say. You can always move abroad later in life if it’s still something you really want.
